No if Trent only went to one game this season, which Gathers' coach confirms, that's a problem. I think he thought Scott had it under control and obviously he didn't.

so when you have a game on wed. and saturday, you should be watching rico vs preparing your team and scouting the other?

like i said in the other thread, i'd like to know how many times drew saw him play at his h.s. THIS year.

he wanted to go to baylor, he wanted to believe drew. If he wanted to give trent a chance, he would have come on an official visit and let trent give him his pitch. He didn't. he went on TWO official visits, committed after both.

kid doesn't seem like a quality kid to me.

can't believe people trying to defend this kid.

regardless if trent is a good or bad coach that should be retained or fired, this kid is wrong for what he did.

FYI, was listening to some college hoops talk today with Jeff Borzello and Matt Norlander of CBSsports.com. Both agreed that Baylor has been a disappointment and predicted they would be a likely No. 6 seed, despite having the best talent in the Big 12. They said they have lost all their big games, and would likely lose all remaining big games.

Of course LSU's team sucks and I would love to even sniff a No. 6 seed, but Baylor is not a team that is winning, or even being in contention, for ANY kind of titles in the near future, including conference titles.

So Greg Gathers' comment about playing for a contender is a little misguided. He should have went to Florida, if that was the case.

Juggling your time properly is a part of the job.

I dont think the ranking matters, playing time is what he cares about.

Playing time would have come a lot easier at LSU

Sounds like we just need to get him here on an official visit.

Lunardi has them as a #3(and falling) in today's Bracketology.

Yes, but all of the projections are for today. They can't really project future schedules for a whole bracket, but indivual discussions can take that into account. They broke down their schedule and both thought six seed.

According to Tim Byrd, Drew saw him play this high school season the exact same number of times as Trent did: one.

And Drew's easy negative recruiting pitch from that is: "I had to come 8 hours to see you once and he just had to come ONE HOUR and we've seen you the same amount of times? Man he must not want you bad enough but we do." A self important high school athlete will eat that up.

ignornant to stupid athlete. if he plays the sport, is coached in the sport, and driven to b.r. himself, then he should know it doesn't matter if it's one hour or 10. when you have a day to travel, it doesn't matter how far it is, you have the same day.

he plays the sport, he has a game or two a week, he should know his coach is watching film, having practices for them, going over previous film studies with them, holding practices for the next game. so when you have the day open, one hour and 10 hrs isn't the issue. it's having the day open to recruit.

And TJs simple retort would be "nobody has come to see you more than we have."

It is amazing to me that some people still think this is about recruiting effort. Gathers own coach said Trent "lived there". Hell his brother is even quoted as saying it was about playing for a contender.

Except for this year of course.

I think it's about both but that "going to see him play" door was open and Trent should have closed it.

It's not. It was a convenient excuse.

Do you really think it is reasonable that Gathers made his decision because he didn't think TJ wanted him enough? Seriously? The kid, as kids do, decided to make up an excuse rather than admit he just wanted to go elsewhere. This should be crystal clear.

Stop and think. His coach clarified because it didn't make sense. His brother clarified because it didn't make sense.

What I'm saying is Drew is a master negative recruiter. If he was going to call Trent out on his record the last few years well that is what it is, you've just got to roll with that but with something as simple as this you've got to cover that opening. They should not be 1 to 1 on seeing his games. I'm talking big picture not just Gathers. Fair or not Trent is going to have this stain on him and used against him with other college coaches now.

Do you really think the he would be going to LSU if Johnson had gone to more games? Hell, all of his games?

TJ may very well deserve plenty of criticism for missing on Gathers. But it isn't due to effort.

Some of you peeps owe Trent an apology.....not saying we shouldn't find a better coach/recruiter, but he definately recruited Rico harder than anyone else.

Apologies should be in order

I apologize Trent....can you recruit now and at least make LSU respectable again?

I mean Brady was doing it

JuMichael Young, Regis Koundjia, and Ross Neltner disagree.

Ross Neltner was a good player in the wrong system. He did well at Vandy.
