I get you aren't a fan of slappers and I don't think LSU should be using more than a couple in the lineup at one time, but making everyone swing away isn't going to solve our issues.

Number one, have to develop our swing away hitters better. We shouldn't be changing someone like Briggs who is very young and having a lot of success right now. Look at what all the changing and tweaking did to Sunseri. Let Briggs do what has made her successful.

Stewart on the other hand, who has struggled significantly since her freshmen season. I would be open for change because what she has done lately isn't working overall.

Saintsfan22 Did you watch the WS? Mudge is now the all time hits leader in the WCWS Doesn’t make her better than Briggs but certainly doesn’t make her worse either

And even including a great week, statistically she was worse. Mudge may not slap but she is more of the singles hitter that you keep complaining about(6 xbh on the season).

I honestly think that Dobson bases his whole philosophy around that statement. How many pop-ups did Clark, Doyle, and Sunseri have this year? It wasn't because they were facing rise-ball pitchers each week. They were swinging at the bottom of the ball, lifting and swinging out of their shoes trying to hit a home run every time. The difference in LSU and Oklahoma (among MANY others) is that Oklahomas homeruns were a product of sound fundamental contact and power. How many did they hit in just the World Series OPPO or going down to get it? You don't get Oklahoma numbers MLB style daddy hacking. Of course they have better athletes but I don't think the difference in players is as large as the numbers suggest, it's the hitting philosophy.

Then we need to recruit hitters like them and coach them like they are coached. Why should OU have the market cornered. Oh and I agree with you on everything you said

Maybe because OU dominates their conference every year, is in OKC every year and has a coach who has won 5 national titles (6 CWS finals in the last 9 years). At this time, there isn't a better program out there, they are at the top of the chain. Not hard to understand why kids flock there, kind of like its not hard to understand why top recruits flock to Saban annually.

They get the players sure, but they are well coached as well. Their players develop in the circle and at the plate.

Well then, its going to be quite an accomplishment when LSU overtakes them in the near future. We can hope

Im not saying its impossible to beat them, JMU and FSU both beat the Sooners but OU's depth was too much for both teams to win 2 of 3.

LSU's next step is figuring out how to get better overall development out of their hitters in general. I mean Florida St wasn't some offensive juggernaut but they worked counts and had quality at bats behind solid pitching. It was good enough to get them to the finals in OKC.

Side note, I hear Anna Jones is heading to Texas St.

Maci Bergeron named Softball Louisiana Gatorade Player of the year

quote:

The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 5-foot-4 junior catcher and right-handed pitcher led the Pioneers to a 27-5 record and the Division III state championship this past season. Bergeron batted .572 with a state single- season record 30 home runs along with 50 runs scored and 73 runs batted in. Ranked as the nation’s No. 5 recruit in the Class of 2022 by Extra Inning Softball, Bergeron stepped into the circle late in the season and compiled a 6-0 record with a 0.39 earned run average and 47 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. She concluded her junior year with 67 home runs in her prep softball career.

Sydney Berzon named Softball Tennessee Gatorade Player of the year

quote:

The 5-foot-11 junior right-handed pitcher led the Red Raiders (27-1) to the Division II-Class AA state championship this past season. Berzon posted a 17-0 record with a 0.47 ERA, surrendering just 11 walks and 16 hits in 77 innings pitched, while striking out 179 batters. An All-Region selection and a Chattanooga Times Free Press Best Of Preps finalist, she also batted .389 with five home runs and 28 RBI. Berzon is ranked as the nation’s No. 11 prospect in the Class of 2022 by Extra Inning Softball.

Do we know yet what the NCAA plans to do about roster sizes next year? You would think they would waive that rule until all players with the extra year have graduated. Going back to the previous limit would make roster decisions a lot more intriguing in a few months though.

Don't think I have heard anything on that yet.

A big transfer to monitor is Ally Shipman from Tennessee- catcher with over .990 fielding percentage, hit over .300 with 40 RBI this past season. I don't know how much scholarship money LSU has available but that could be a determining factor with these bigger transfers on market.

That would be a huge pickup. I will say, I dont know that I would believe that she just up and entered the portal without a plan though. I can't imagine her not having some idea of where she wants to go already. Not going to hold my breath on that one, but would love to see the team do something in the portal. If anything just to show some form of life. Show that they do understand something isn't working how it's going right now.

She followed Alabama, UCLA, Texas, and LSU on her social media.

Its a chance for LSU to get a quality catcher (something we need) and another good bat in the lineup. We have a lot of unknowns at the plate next year but a player of that caliber would be significant help on both ends (hitting and defense).

Returning hitters for LSU:

Briggs- .339 BA with 17 RBI's
Pleasants- .316 BA with 49 RBI's

Then...

Clark- .252 BA with 32 RBI's
Gutierrez- .250 BA with 18 RBI's
Sunseri- .234 BA with 26 RBI's
Stewart- .192 BA with 3 RBI's
Cummins- .186 BA with 15 RBI's
Tidwell- .154 BA with 10 RBI's

Freshmen with some time from this season:
Coffey- .226 BA with 6 RBI's
Newland- .200 BA with 8 RBI's

Of course Bama needs a catcher since their catcher finally finished her eligibility. But having her here in Baton Rouge would fill a void till Bergeron gets here.

Let's just hope Bama doesn't convince the Bergeron family to send their girl to them. That 1B coach Hafetz being from that Crowley area worries me

Bergeron isn’t gonna leave. Big LSU family and are way too close with the current coaches.

Maci and her dad have to be some of the most vocal LSU softball recruits in a while. I always see them vocally trying to bring top kids to come visit or commit to LSU. They are working pretty hard to bring Kayden Henry here (top 5 2023 recruit)
