No true Tiger fan would not hope that the worst is over. I agree there. But while you (optimistically) offer the next year or two to determine if a downward trend is truly before us, it's my feel that this next season will tell the tale. If I see a team that competes, the does not play down to the lowest level of opposition, that wins some big ones (even if some are also lost), and seems like it has team leadership and the ability to grasp a game plan and stick with it, I'll be ok for another year.

I can't argue with that too much. If the O is not noticeably better next year (especially the line), I think we're all going to feel VERY nervous abut the direction of the program. My thinking behind saying "the next year or two" is that IF things aren't better with the O next year, then I would expect Miles to make drastic changes the following year. If that is the case, I would hope the improvement would be akin to what we saw with the D this year. But, again, I agree that if we aren't better next year, it is cause for serious concern and grounds for major changes on the staff. I have to say, however, that my hunch is that this time next year we'll all feel a lot better about the direction of the program. I REEEEALLY hope I'm not wrong about that.

The automatic assumption by many folks is that - if there is support for Miles to be given time to bring us back into the national scene then it is seen as pure support for Miles and not as a support for coming back to the top.

No one but no one wants to have a coach who cannot keep us at the top.

This is the core point of contention amongst the fans - some think that Miles can't bring us to the top , the others feel that he knows the way and can do it since he has been there already.

If Miles turns out to not do that , then almost everyone would thank him for what he has accomplished for and with LSU and be anxious for a change.

But nevertheless given what he has accomplished in the past , no other alternatives ala Meyer out there who will come here readily, contract issues- he certainly should and will be given a couple of seasons.

Absolutely!! I did not mean to imply that I think Miles might be gone if we aren't improved next year. But I do think that if that is the case, Crowton and (depending on what happens with the line) Stud might be canned.

I am sorry - calling BS and biggest load of crock on this.
Call BS all you want, but I am not assuming these players are blank slates. Why do you think most of the time freshmen aren't out there playing, after stellar seasons in HS? My short answer is that they have to learn the new college football culture (the plays, the expectations, the "feel" of the team, etc.) and sometimes unlearn what they had picked up in HS. It doesn't happen with a shake of the game board. Likewise when a coaching change happens, esp. when you had an OCD coach like Saban and a new one comes in without that same OCD pattern. Takes a while for all the team to learn/unlearn. So LSU won 10 for 3 of CLM's first five seasons as the culture faded. Then the more typical CLM culture began to settle in and we began to see LSU struggle. Don't like that? Give me a better explanation for what happened in 08,09 and try to separate it from the Miles culture, if you can. Bad players? Bad karma? What?
