Rashard Lawrence as NT in Aranda's 3-4?

Is Rashard Lawrence big and strong enough to play nose tackle in a 3-4?

I can see it... Ed Alexander, very likely.

Why do you think Arnada will run a 3-4?

Asking a lot of a true freshman to play NT in the SEC. Maybe in spurts if he's that big

Because he runs a 3-4, 1 gap.

While that's true and we will be multiple, especially next season. He will transition LSU to a 3-4 (1 Gap).
That's exactly what happened at Wisconsin when he took them from a 4-3 to 3-4.

Aranda didn't run a true 3-4. he focused on a more lighter speedy 3-4 and was known as a 4-3 guy before then.
basically next year (2017) we will see a true multiple defense after these past recruiting classes going for bigger and more versatile linemen and linebackers.

I think Loc, then Alexander would play NT next year before Lawrence, when LSU goes to a 3-4, but I doubt it happens often next year.

Hey that's my thread!
And yes, Aranda has experience running both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. So he can coach both. But, he's had his most success running the 3-4. He implemented it at Utah St and they became top 15 in all of the 4 major defensive categories that year. Goes to Wisky, implements it there, and they were top 10 in the 4 major defensive categories over a 3 year span(which is amazing btw).
You don't get a coach with those type of credentials and that much success with a certain scheme and have him run a diff scheme, even though he knows how to run that scheme. It's like getting a coach that runs the Air Raid offense and have him run the Wing T or veer or something. Kinda goes against the reason why you hired him.
We probably will run multiple defensive fronts, we did that this year btw, while he implements his 3-4 scheme and finds who / what works where and all that. But yea Aranda will put in his 3-4 scheme here.
The good thing about it is that it's a 1 gap scheme, so you don't have to have tbat monster NT in th middle. The NT shoot the gaps in this scheme so you need quickness and burst. The NT needs to be very disruptive in this scheme compared to a 2 gap scheme where he needs to be a space eater and take on blockers to free the LBers. The NT is the anchor in a 2 gap 3-4 D. That's why I think his 3-4 will work here. If it was a true 2 gap 3-4 scheme, then I would question if it would work here.
In regards to Lawrence, I def think he can play the NT in Aranda scheme. Also think he can play a DE in the 3-4 as well. Kinda the same way I view Godchaux, big and strong enough to play the NT and atheltic enough to play the DE spot.

Saw him play 5x this past year, he could olb if he lost 25lbs, very good athlete for his size

It's not really that simple. He ran a lot of 2 gap stuff too.
He'll get creative I'm sure. I expect we'll play a lot more man than he did at Wisconsin just b/c LSU is full of stud man corners and safeties that can cover man on man as well

Aranda is likely to run multiple fronts initially. The team isn't built for a 3-4 right now. In time, I expect them to move in that direction. Miles has an obvious affinity for the scheme, as his last two hires are well versed in the alignment.
I was told that Miles made it clear that he is comfortable with a lot of the things they are currently doing on defensive right now and wanted to make sure there wasn't a complete overhaul of the defensive philosophy/scheme.
With that said, he won't handcuff him if he feels the need to change a lot of things up.

We all like to focus on diff schemes and how this player fits here and that player fits there and all that... But the goal is still the same: To stop the other teams offense.
Regardless what front we run, or what front it looks like we're running, the 2 things that will be consistent with Aranda is that he wants to attack, blitz, and pressure / confuse the opponents offense in a variety of ways and will man up with the DBs.
With the amount of athletes we have on D, that's exactly the style of football we should be playing IMO.

We were heading to a 3-4 under Steele if I remember from his talk, last year, and why we have recruited bigger guys this year. I think we will see that trend continue, and with more LB's in the future...

May take a few classes to get the players he needs to run his chosen schemes, but history shows he adjust to the talent in the locker room. Great hire!

sure he could play NT. But who wants that?
hopefully Ed Alexander can take that spot leaving us ever

Everything I read said he would determine which defense to run based on players strength. It could be a 4-3 or 3-4.
