Now before you get on me, let me make myself clear. I like Miles. I think he is a good guy, coach, and leader. Despite this year, i think he has done an excellent job at LSU. I am asking, if you were recruit looking to one day play in the pros, would you rather have miles or saban as a coach? This isn't about colleges, throw lsu and bama out the equation.

Depends on if you were an offensive (Miles) or defensive (Saban) recruit.

The NFL will find you if you can play no matter who coached you or what school you attended.

depends on if you want to like your coach or hate your coach when you play for him

Saban is a good coach but he is a prick, very hard to play for, very demanding, will throw you under the bus, doesnt focus on academics and doesnt always do whats best for the player.

Miles on the other hand is the complete opposite. Still a good coach of course. As we saw this year though, because he isnt as demanding, some players will lose focus.

If I were a defensive player and my only goal was NFL, I might choose Saban.

If I cared about academics and character of my coach, I would choose Miles.

Thats the thing about recruits, its not just about how great a coach can coach or getting to the NFL, there is a lot that goes into it and the relationship with the coach might play the largest part.

It would depend on a lot of factors...and the head coach is merely one of those factors. The only way the head coach would be the definitive factor would be if I were a DB or an OL. If I was a DB (and had no personal feelings toward either school), I would strongly lean to playing for Saban because the secondary is his bread and butter...he is practically the position coach. If I were an OL, I would strongly lead to playing for Miles because the O-line is his forte. Each guy would be a great coach for technique at those positions. Maybe I would have a problem with Saban's character...about how he moves on every few years...his lack of loyalty. Miles has Saban beat hands down there. I would think about how Saban got up in front of the world and not only said he wasn't going to Alabama but acted incredulous that people would be so ridiculous to think such a thing...and left for Alabama two days later. I would contrast that with Miles saying last year that he wasn't going to Michigan and instead was going to coach his damn strong football team...and did just that. I would think about how Miles, when suspending Perrilloux for last years LSU-Bama game, left him in Baton Rouge. I would contrast that to when Saban suspended Hall for last year's LSU-ULM game. As the game worsened for Bama, suddenly Hall wasn't suspended anymore and when asked by reporters after the game about it, Saban's classic response: it was what it was. If a coach's character and word were important to me...this would be easy.

But there are so many other factors that I would consider besides playing for Saban or Miles. How did I feel about the assistants? The coordinators and the position coaches? Maybe I wanted to stay close to home or perhaps I wanted to go far away for a change of scenery. There are the facilities, the housing, the academic support. And there would be an intangible factor that would just be a feeling...where did I feel most comfortable? Some places just feel right, you know?

Finally, some kids have just been lifelong fans of one particular school. Me...even if I was a talented CB...I wouldn't even consider playing for Saban or, ugh, wearing crimson.

Peace Out

Nice post. Some minds are too simple to comprehend all the variables involved.

It is not Saban who coaches the DEFENSE but his assistants. The problem at LSU at the present time is the assistant coaches ie. Mallory and Peveto who are out of position.

If you want to play pro ball, the most important coaching that you will get is from your position coaches and strength coach. The head coach needs to be the team leader and for 3 years Miles was an outstanding leader, this year he did not lead the team well. It also helps to win a lot of games and get good exposure to move up quickly in the the scouts eyes.

I cant understand if you are a LSU fan how you can make these kind of posts in the end of the recruiting season when recruits are trying to decide between schools.
Are you really a fan or just plain stupid?
These questions should be reserved for the Rant or not during the critical part of LSU's recruiting season.
To think recruits or their families do not read this board is stupid too.
If posts like these changes the mind of one good recruit, then what service have you done for LSU football if you really are a LSU fan.

I agree totally. These morons post crap like this either to get a raise out of someone or because they truly are still unable to remove Sabans meatsicle from their mouths, but all its doing is showing recruits and their families that there are "supposed" Tiger fans who have more respect for, and would prefer that they attend/play for, another school.

None of these people are true Tiger fans. They are the same ones that are still complaining, even though we have the #1 recruiting class and potentially the best class EVER. They are the ones calling the LSU coaches stupid for not offering a scholly to a guy who is not going to make the GPA or ACT, simply because he got an offer from Bammer.

This $hyte is ludicrous.

At least the one positive about stupid questions like this is that this board also happens to have its small, but vocal, share of intelligent, rational, and eloquent posters who can list the numerous reasons why a recruit would be blessed to be a part of the LSU culture and football program......as well as the many reasons why the majority of the people in this world think that Saban is a lying, untrustworthy, snotty, a-hole who you couldn't trust further than you could throw his little Gump arse.

I would choose Miles over Saban, for the simple fact that Miles isn't a sell out. And you've never heard Miles disrespect a culture or people in general. Now as for a coach, Saban is a better Defensive coach than miles. But Saban will never have the balls or the timing, to pull calls like Miles did in 2007. Miles leads with the important traits, Honesty, Loyalty, integrity, and the will to win at any cost. Miles over Saban...

miles has alot of good traits that saban doesnt have.he builds charecter.the team just lacked leadership this year.if saban was the only coach who put people in the pros i guess alabama would have the whole draft tied up.

Ask the same question on an Alabama board.

You just asked a bunch of LSU fans who they would rather play for. Well golly gee, that sure is a tough one.

I like the way how every time an LSU player makes a mistake, Miles doesn't get mad at him but tries to cheer him up so he doesn't do it again.

For example, every time I saw Lee make a bad pass or an interception, Miles always went up to him nicely. I respect Les for that.

In contrast, Saban came close to permanently lodging his foot in P.J. Fitzgerald's arse after he shanked a punt when we were up 29-0.
