Yeah he signed three straight top 5 classes, but his 17 class was legit awful, Marshall and chase and a bunch of busts or transfers. From there on out it seems like every class was full of transfers or busts. I think 2021 may have been his best class, but it had a disturbing lack of O lineman.
Who should he have gotten, and who should he have passed on, and where are your posts pointing these out?

Say what you want about O but he was a helluva recruiter. He’s been successful at recruiting everywhere he went including OM. It was his inconsistency at developing the talent, not pulling it in that lead to his downfall… well that and TeslaBrandi

Sounds more like you’re saying he was a crappy coach and couldn’t keep them on the roster which is accurate. Dude can recruit with the best of them, he just can’t run a program.

Les avg recruiting class was 7th during his lsu tenure. O was 6th during lsu tenure. Kelly's was 12th during ND tenure.

We can still recruit top ten 10 classess consistently and should always honestly

To me his (O's) problem was that that he tended to stockpile skill talent with a priority of best player available as opposed to a more analytical need based system. He had the eye-popping highly rated classes, but several of them lacked balance and perhaps not enough long view moves.

I'm not going to diminish what he did here, but I don't think he had a sustainable model (which of course is quite easy to critique with the benefit of hindsight).

He got a few good line (O&D) signees but this year the O line class looks good for the first time in a decade.
