One person's opinion about recruiting...

Well, I will say I gave up on getting excited about commitments before signing period years ago. I was turned off about a kid commiting, de-commiting, commited on X %, commited but "looking around". To me, too much drama.
So, I only worry about those now on board. I've read all the opinions on this board about glass half full, or half empty. But from my initial reivew and being agnostic of stars and just basing on position rating and what schools offered, I would say Lsu got a very solid class, and one that address most, but not all, of needs.
Lineman class is more than solid and seems met a lot of defensive needs. Two good running backs, outstanding receiver. Sure, would have preferred a quarterback, but I'm not the coach and have no idea their thoughts as to whether we are in good shape with who we have or whether they have failed to get their target. But, overall, I would say solid class and one that more than fills some big holes.

I feel like QB was just kinda slim pickens this year after you discount all the big 5 star top of the board ones that already all seemed to be hard commits elsewhere. Narcisse redshirted last year so it's basically like we do have a newbie coming in with lots of eligibility left. Brennan is gonna be good in his second year after getting his feet wet this season. I do think next year we need to sell out on bringing in a stellar quarterback. I agree with your stance on this class and I'm content with it also. Filled some big needs in the trenches. Going to keep DBU rolling once those guys gets signed. I think the future is bright for LSU football. Geaux Tigers

If we ever get the OC thing figured out, and have some consistency on that side of the ball, we will have a better chance of getting that elite QB that LSU so desperately needs for the future.
Hopefully, LN & MB can be really good for us the next several years. The potential is there, just haven't seen it on the field yet.

Staff needs to target at least 5 QB's for next year now. And get on them early and often!!!

i'd be willing to bet the mortgage that they have more than 5 targeted for next year and the year after. recruiting is a multi-year process and ALL of the upper talented QB's (plus other positions) are contacted to gauge initial interest. from there they target them and begin the "process" of recruiting. the list will change from time to time but the recruiting process is incredibly sophisticated. that is why a "recruiting coordinator" is needed (and probably several office employees).
it's funny that with all of the advanced communications capabilities of the present age, it still takes PEOPLE to sell them and get their signature.

It also seems like Orgeron and his staff are better evaluators of talent than the previous regime.

Are you referring to solely the QB position? Because Miles got more talent here than anyone in the nation and made us an NFL factory. He just couldn't consistently utilize the talent properly.

The previous regime did a great job evaluating talent and just do not see Coach O doing any better.
Hopefully Coach O can do a better job recruiting the QB position and mostly do a better job of getting kids who stay with the program and stick around.
You look at all the transfers, kids dropping out etc but every school even Bama faces this every year.

It's still early and the jury is still out on O, but I liked what I saw from last year's class. With the exception of Seth Stewart (weird deal) all the players signed can play imo.
Miles brought in a lot of talented kids, but he missed a good bit too. My biggest pet peeve with Miles/Frank approach was that they got left at the altar too many times putting all their chips in on 1 guy at a position and had to fall back on kids just to fill slots that couldn't play.
The defensive class brought in last year was tremendous from top to bottom.
Curious to see if this class is as solid.
