Numbers Game

With 23 committed as of today, if we are looking at signing 27 then we have 4 spots left open. Fulton and Mullen get two of those which then leaves two spots left. We need another OL in my opinion. I don't see us getting OL Price from GA, I like Lashley OL from Miss. Who do you have for the last two?

Sci Martin is one. I don't think we get any o line. I think we miss on Giles and the only long shot I've heard really positive news on is Anderson. Some believe Taylor will be in with Giles out.
Mullen
Fulton
Martin
Even though I would put money on Giles to Texas, he would be my 4th most likely based on all situations considered. Next may be Anderson and I think the odds are really low there.

Assuming S.Martin flips, then your looking at one spot (assuming we keep Fowler and snag Fulton/Mullen). I would love another OL in this class, but there is no one that anyone should feel confident in based on the reports. At this point, I hope we keep D. Campbell. We could go to 27, but at this point (emphasis on at this point) the last one would be someone that no one has much confidence right now. Possibles are S. Carter, Lashley, DCG, S. Taylor, or D. Anderson, but none are likely according to most outlets.
Carter-OM
Lashley-MSU
DSG-UT
S. Taylor-UT/FSU
D. Anderson-OM
I have no inside info, just follow the various outlets/rumors.

Yeah I've heard the rumors about Anderson now for the last few days.....gosh that would be epic! He has been one of those guys who hasn't committed, but who has just been "around" visiting here and there and always mentioning LSU.

I doubt they use that spot on a filler, I don't know of any Foster Moreau type contingency player this year. 26 is a pretty full class and there is going to be a lot of attrition to meet the 85 as it is already.

I'm not sure if anyone has done the math and of course this would have to be contingent of who goes to the league bit how many are we expecting to sign next year 2017? Walrus are you thinking they sign 26 and put one in the pocket for next year or something to that effect?

Obviously not Walrus, and I have no inside info, but personally I hope we don't just fill the spot to fill it. With that said, next year isn't nearly as deep as this year. There are a few top prospects that will be immediate impact players wherever they sign that we're in on, but don't expect the depth that this class has. That may lead the coaches to take someone. I never like to just take a body to take one though. You should have a plan to use each player you take otherwise what's the point?

I totally agree. I know everyone is excited about this year, but the true test will be next year. There will be alot of hard work and frequent flyer miles accumulated to go and reel in some OOS talent.

I agree with your answer, no point in just taking a guy for the sake of it, especially when it would force a current guy to transfer.
I didn't do a thorough job of checking at 1 AM, but I believe LSU was a few under the 85 limit last year. Let's say 80. I counted about 12 guys who graduated or announced a transfer (Diarse/Feist). So my conservative estimate is 68, it is probably more. That means if they sign 27, at least another 10 guys will have to "mutually part ways." That's a lot of attrition and there are some guys who might be candidates to move on that still could be contributors before they graduate. It will be messy to get down to 85 as it is.
If anything I said was wrong, anyone feel free to correct me, I'm no expert.
Edit- Made estimates even more conservative.

I hope so. His film is nasty. Very underrated for such a productive player with prototypical size.
Last I heard TCU was not feeling good. Any other info out there?

He's digging Aranda scheme. LSU is giving him a lot more attention. It looks really promising.

Layton Garnett could be our Foster Moreau.
Posted on 2/2/16 at 1:42 am to tFearIsReal
I think that is accurate.
Posted on 2/2/16 at 1:50 am to tFearIsReal
I thought Layton Garnett was coming on as a walk-on. If he's agreed to that there is no reason to offer.
Posted on 2/2/16 at 1:54 am to TigernMS12
Frank said earlier in the process that 26 was the number, so who knows. I just feel like if there's going to be a surprise, it's more of a Duke Riley, Russell Guage, Layton Garnett type than anything.
And, we need more linebackers. Aranda talked to him about playing linebacker. Fact.

What's the situation with Travez Moore?

I thought he had trouble qualifying? I could be wrong though.

I thought he was "put on hold" by LSU after he "committed" because the offer was conditional, but I haven't seen anything about it being because he wouldn't qualify, and I haven't seen anything about him looking at other schools, so I'm not sure what his status is. Is he history, or could he still be waiting in the wings?
Posted on 2/2/16 at 11:59 am to ReverendJeffro
Is the stat correct on Sci Martin recording 35 sacks last season?
