Not giving up on Simmons but

This doesn’t seem all that great.

LSU had been considered the favorite for the five-star defensive end for some time but after another recent visit to Austin, the chatter is now that Texas might lead by a wide margin and a commitment might not be too far off. The Duncanville, Texas standout had a great time at Texas, it’s much closer to home if family considerations are involved in his decision and for numerous reasons the Longhorns look like the favorite now.

They weren't going to let him leave the state is what I was told. You'd rather be in these battles then not.
You hope to try to get him in for the July pool party and still hope he takes the OV for the Florida game.

There’s already been people on Captain’s post that said this is an overreaction on the UTa side (kind of like we do with our “locks”) and to let it all play out. I have said from the get go though, I don’t see him getting out of Texas. They will back up the Brinks truck and I don’t blame them.

All I know is that the Texas side believes he is locked down and could commit before the season. All their writers are starting to put picks in or already have.

Captain, so who’s next on our board for a legit stand up pass rusher? Simmons is on another level, but do we have one comparable that we have an in on?

Thought we were in on CJ Jackson but he’s committed elsewhere.
Keep hope for both. Things can happen.

The big name that's getting pushed that LSU might have a chance with Jordan Ross. He's supposed to come to the pool party.
Back on Simmons, yes Texas shows to have all the momentum and the picks are coming in riding high off a great visit in Austin. BUT, if you get him in for the pool party you could easily see that momentum swing back to the Tigers.

Sure would be nice to pick off a B-ham kid from under Nicky's nose...

When’s the pool party?
Didn’t realize we were doing a bash!

July 28th. I am glad they are that's why I was surprised that they didn't have anything like Texas did before the dead period. But I also think that weekend is a big weekend for A&M as well right now.

They've been saying for a while that Simmons is an Early Signing Day commit guy. Odds of him committing early would be very slim.

Unless he's a silent. We'll know more if/when he makes visits.

Ross: 4.6 40 & 35" vert at that size. Sounds like he's elite...

Texas is pushing the story line that they have him locked in and could shut it down before his senior year.

For the casual followers of recruiting, What is the pool party?

So this is an event that LSU is going to host elite out of state and in state prospects at. This will be the big recruiting event for LSU before the season starts.

BATON ROUGE — Imagine you are a five-star prospect visiting LSU.
You are sitting in a rocking chair on the balcony of the home of new LSU coach Brian Kelly on University Lake with a view of Tiger Stadium and the Memorial Tower in the distance.
And suddenly, Tiger Stadium lights up.
Kelly could probably have someone do that Saturday night when he and his wife, Paqui, host two dozen or more high school prospects from around the country at his $3 million, 5,000-square-foot palatial home after his first spring game that afternoon in that stadium.

Brian Kelly Had A Rough Start, But His Process Is Rolling Now
“With Brian Kelly’s home being within a mile of campus, he will be able to host all prospects – official and unofficial visitors – at his home,” Bo Bahnsen, LSU’s retired director of NCAA compliance, said on Friday. “If he lived more than a mile out, he could only have the official visitors over and would have to tell the unofficial guys they couldn’t come.”
Before the mile radius rule, schools often violated the rules by mixing unofficial visitors with official visitors at host sites around campus, Bahnsen said.

Landing elite prospects out of Texas seems like a pipe dream nowadays. Both major universities can out spend anyone and now Texas has the whole SEC card to play

Texas also pressed for his commitment and didn't get it.
After an official visit there's a sort of honeymoon phase. I'm sure Texas put the very best foot forward and highlighted everything that makes going to Texas seem like it's the ideal situation for Simmons.
Simmons however did not give them his commitment. As long as he continues to come to Baton Rouge I'll continue to believe we have as good a shot, or better, to pull him out of Texas.
If he doesn't come to LSU later this month then that will be the writing on the wall. Or if he cancels his OV this fall. Short of him doing either, we will be in it til the very end.
People keep saying Texas isn't going to let him leave the state, but Simmons is going to go where he believes will give him the opportunity to achieve his goals. Texas cannot guarantee he doesn't leave the state, short of taking him hostage.
I think this fall will show the LSU is on track to becoming a consistent power in the SEC under Kelly.
I usually don't think wins and losses are viewed the same by players as they are by fans, but in this context, if Texas doesn't perform well, the Sarks future there will be called into question, whereas Kelly is entrenched at LSU. I think that may end up being the deciding factor when it comes down to it.

Just stay on him and keep recruiting. Wasn't too long ago when we were leading for Perk then he committed to the Texas school close to home
