Ferguson is, but I like this guy better than johnson and his shot put throwing motion

This. I was one of those that hated watching Johnson's sophomore film because it just left a lot of questions, but I was really impressed with his junior film. Also, the kid realizes the weak parts of his game and works on him. Said he has been working on his footwork this offseason a lot.
I may be one of very few that want Johnson at LSU.

I want Johnson as long as we get Rettig or Buchanan to go with him.

Maybe Johnson, but Ferguson has a very low ceiling. I would just hold the scholly if Ferguson is all that is left.

I really want Auburn to get Johnson. It'd be like killing two birds with one stone, if you know what I mean.

Dude, I have lived here for just a few years. I have no homerism with this area. I even said I don't think the competition in this area is as good as elsewhere. Your sarcasm and instincts are wrong.
I think that Ferguson is probably better. He is the most fundamentally sound in mechanics of all the QBs we are looking at and has a strong, accurate arm with nice touch and accuracy. But Jennings is not far behind.
I cannot emphasize how much I disagree with your assessment of Johnson. And thats cool. We'll just agree to disagree. IMO, Johnson does not possess the touch or accuracy of either Jennings or Ferguson. Johnson has the strongest arm, I'll give you that. He can chuck the ball 60 yards downfield easy. But he is chucking it. Moreover, when he throws a mid 20-yard pass down the middle or to the sideline, he has to take off speed to get it there with any accuracy and even then it is wobbly. Bottom line is that Johnson is a thrower not a passer.
Moreover, Ferguson and Jennings both seem to have better field vision and instincts than Johnson. Even more, Johnson has a slow windmill release. He is nowhere near as fast getting rid of the ball as either Ferguson or Jennings. What do you not like about Jennings? Give some specifics.

Johnson would not be our only QB, he'd come in with either Rettig or Buchanan, two top QBs. That way if he doesn't meet his incredible potential, it doesn't really hurt us.

If you guys miss on both Rettig and Buchanan, do you take just a Johnson and no one else?
Posted on 5/19/12 at 7:09 pm to GABlueDog
I'd suspect not. Not sure who would be next specifically though

You realize how this is not a ringing endorsement of Johnson by you?

I'm just saying the staff may want to bring in two QBs, regardless of who they are

Agree with the poster above you. You're not really making a very good argument for Johnson. In fact you're making the argument of the guys from our fanbase that doesn't want him. We all know he has huge potential but very few of us believe he will ever reach it(my man GA seems to be one). Therein lies the issue. Jordan Jefferson had a big arm, ability to escape pressure and high upside and that didn't work out so well. What we want to know is what kind of potential does his brain have? Obviously you aren't so sure about that either since you're basically saying the only way he's at Auburn is if he's with another qb in case he doesn't reach his potential. Hell we'd take that. No harm at all in taking him coupled with another guy. Would you take him as a stand alone QB in this class? Look at it from our point of view. If you had gone through the debacle that was Jordan Jefferson's career and saw a prospect that is so similar to him in many ways, would you be eager to take him? I assume the answer would be no. That would be like Auburn fans wanting another qb like Barrett Trotter or the guy that started the year prior to Cam. I doubt you are eager for another guy like those 2.

I can see why LSU fans are so hesitant to take Johnson. I'm just saying that with the QB's left on LSU's board, you aren't going to be getting anyone much better. Johnson has more upside than any of the QBs left on LSU's board.
And the thing I saw with Jefferson was that he never really improved IMO. Johnson has already showed that he can take coaching and improve if you compare his sophomore and junior film.

lol at you comparing JJ to Newton and Pryor. Only similarities they have are being black and 6'5

lsufanva said JJ had a big arm, was good at escaping pressure, and had high upside. The same exact things were said about Pryor and Newton out of HS, and are being said of Johnson.
What is false in this statement?

I agree to a certain extent. His straight line speed doesn't appear overly impressive but he is quite shifty.
