are you just arguing to argue?
You should be directing this to LE. I said he is one of the best LBs to come out of the state in years. He was the #1 LB in the state that year. LE got into a hissy fit over the comment and went a long tirade and ending up proving nothing wrong about my comment he got into a hissy fit to begin with.

He was a 4 Star on rivals and the #8 player in La in 2008 a down year in La, and the #16 LB in the nation, a very good prospect, nothing super special
When did I say anything about nationally? You're going off on an irrelevant tangent. He was still the #1 LB in the state and a very good LB prospect. What's so terrible with saying he was one of the best LBs in LA in (Recent) years?
quote:
So he starts as a soph. Good for him, will not make or break the LSU program, move on.
So you're the final say on who we can and can't talk about? Okay
He's a former recruit in LA, sorry for bringing him up

Here's my take, LSU simply fricked up here. One of Mauti's best friends was pimping him every day on Tigerbait during his recruitment saying that Mike DID have a lot of interest in the Tigers. But as another poster on here said, Florida and OU were recruiting the kid harder than LSU was. Had LSU jumped on him in February or even April like his ability warranted, I think he would have been a Tiger rather than PSU. He was a Mandeville kid who had a lot of friends at LSU, he wasn't a kid who dreamed of playing for Penn State over LSU.
Whenever Scike was asked about Mauti, he showed what a moron he is by saying that he didn't have the speed to play in the SEC. Yet months later in the Army game, Mauti looks really good while Prater looks a little overmatched at times. Mauti was a better prospect than Prater for sure, he should have been in that class. That move, along with passing on Frank Alexander for all of the slow DLs we took in his class, are the two biggest recruiting mistakes of the Miles era IMO. Thankfully, the coaches who made those decisions are gone.
And I have to disagree with Lester here. There are NOT LBs in Louisiana like Mauti every year. You simply don't start at PSU as a true sophomore at LB unless you are a stud. You don't do what he did in the Army game either. PSU people have been talking about Mauti as the next Posluzny/Connor/Bowman etc ever since he got there. They've signed other touted LBs the last couple of years, but he is the one who has stood out the most.

all the guys he named except maybe ledoux were the top LB'ers of their class presumably by media and hs coaches consensus.

Ledoux was a the LA DEF POY, but that was a long time ago. I just thought id throw in the other WM guy along with Sanders/Mingo.
and the way he worded it originally made it seem like Mauti was best of the bunch in a while. which just isnt true.
he's just another face in that group

yea thats the way i read it and i recall that now about ledoux.

And once again how does this disprove what I said? (round and round we go)
Is Mauti not one of the best LBs out of LA in years or not? #1 in the state would tend to say yes. Playing as a true freshman at LB U and starting in his 2nd year would say yes...

No I didn't. You didn't comprehend it properly which is why you went off.
You were assuming I said he was the best when I never said that. I saidd he was one of the best and then you saying there were other #1 LBs in the state in prior years doesn't disprove what I said one bit.

i just dont recall anyone thinking mauti was a recruiting loss and i've been following lsu football since 1988. no one, despite his friend posting here saying he liked lsu as his friends could see him play, really considered him as an LSU target and had he really been interested then there would have been more gnashing of teeth and wailing. maybe i missed something?

Fans consider players recruiting targets based on what they read on the sites, and the sites get it from their research. Frank Alexander is another who should have been a "target", but wasn't. So don't blame the fans, blame the staff.

Lester, you are going by Rivals' rankings, which as we all know isn't a foolproof judge of talent.
I personally think Mauti is more talented than every LB you listed besides Beckwith and probably Alexander. That's just my opinion right now, and obviously it can't be proven as a fact until he does something on the field. Pittman was a DE and we all know that Mingo isn't close to a polished LB.
Posted on 8/6/09 at 12:58 am to ColtsTigers
I think you are missing my point. There is a reason when Mauti is not targeted. It's not like he was a diamond in the rough.
Posted on 8/6/09 at 1:10 am to STLSU
The reason he wasn't targeted is bc the coaches made a mistake.

you're just biased, im not
I'm MUCH better friends with Ace than Mauti(he's my brother's friend). I worked with Ace, watched him play many more games than I saw Mauti.
So how again am I biased? You just won't accept that Mauti was a great prospect since he didn't sign with LSU. Face it.
You're a clown.

Don't know if I would go that far, but to say the kid NEVER would have considered LSU is incorrect. Hard not to want to play for Linebacker U when family went there.

the rank the kids coming out of HS, its the best way to compare them coming out.

not in HS

he may prove to be, but he wasnt in HS.

he wasnt even offered by LSU, so he couldnt sign with them if he wanted too.
