I ordered some recruiting pamphlets from him in '83 &'84 out the back page of some Street & Smith's mag. They were just a 10-page typed ht/wt/sp/hometown listing of recruits by position with the schools they were looking at or committed to. No pictures or anything. Just B&W type.

Then for the Louisiana High School All-Star game in Tiger Stadium after the '85 John Ehret Championship, Max was actually in the stadium selling the next years pamphlet!!! I felt like I met a celebrity.

But after that, I started buying Blue Chips mag, Tom Lemmings magazine bundle, Lindy's Southeast Recruiting Guide, Forrest Davis' recuiting Annual, Allen Wallace's Super Prep magazine, and then later on in the mid-90's, Bobby Burton's National Recruiting Advisor.

Of course, when Burton moved to the internet, he was the main contributor for Rivals. Now Burton & many Rivals writers have moved on to yet another recruiting service called 24/7, but they don't even have an LSU site, so I'm not too anxious to buy into that yet. Allen Wallace went on to build Scout, and Tom Lemming went on to suck Note Dame's cock during every NBC televised Army All-American game.

Still, I have fond memories of Max & those early recruiting days.



EDIT: His website says he has been in HS Recruiting since 1978.

I thought the deal was that we didn't offer him until Billy G saw him and wanted to know why we weren't after this kid. He saw him and wanted him right away and then we offered.

Could be wrong on that but I thought I read that somewhere on here maybe.
