So he's looking good, huh?
Yes, I am impressed with his cover skills and speed. I think he's getting good coaching too.
He got beat on a 11 yard pass in the flat. DeSoto, like LSU, was playing really tight man to man. After that play they started backing both corners off from about three feet away from the line of scrimmage to about six or seven feet off.
They are playing off like that in short yardage situations, giving them a chance to come up and make a play on the ball. Since they changed it up Mills almost had a pick and knocked a ball out of a receiver's hands.
They are still playing up tight when it is a long yardage situation. There have been many of those situations in the game.
He has looked especially good on the deep routes. Stays with the receiver and gives them no room to make a play on the ball. Someone said earlier he needs to be more aggressive. He is in position to make interceptions sometimes but seems to have been coached to play to stop the completion first.
Edited to add:
Mills played at 4A Lancaster last year. He is new to the staff and playing opposite another really good corner in Echols.
With their fast strike offense, their defensive staff can afford to play conservatively in some of their games. Kind of like LSU not going for too many blocks on punts because the returners are so talented.
Will be interesting to see how much rope they give him as the season goes on.

Edinburg reminds me a lot of Faulk in high school
