Tops out at 94, and that was in the 7th inning, nasty slider. By the inning pitched you can tell he can go the distance. Fastball and Slider are his two primary pitches, and those help him out a lot. Had a no-hitter in JUCO this year.

During HS he played at a small 1A school, and USM was on him but slacked off from what I heard. He pitched amazingly during the year this year, and could be a good addition to the pitching staff next year.

Just found a local newspaper article from last Spring that mentioned him as an LSU signee in their game write-up. There may have been some confusion on the signee part but our staff was obviously involved with him while he was still in high school. This could be a guy they wanted to keep under wraps while following his development.

I see the no hitter was one hit batter away from being a perfect game (although it was only 7 innings). It looks like he can still fill out his frame some more and may get even stronger.

Very good info. Thanks for the heads up.

Had to do a google search but figured out who it is. Not sure why y'all don't want his name out though.

Mainieri never officially releases any names until school starts, and I guess he has several backup plans that he doesn't want to draw attention to. I haven't seen this kid mentioned anywhere else and since the original poster didn't mention the name I assumed he may have heard it from a coaches committee contact or something.

A couple more notes..

Hopkins was apparently shut down this season with shoulder soreness. This probably takes away any chance we had of losing him, but it could be bad news in the long run.

Lee apparently hasn't even really talked to scouts this Spring. That could be a good sign for us in that it could show he isn't all that concerned with the draft and is dedicated to giving football a shot, or it could just be his way of enticing some team to throw a ton of money at him.

I have a feeling that we're going to catch a break this year and get one of the three highly rated pitchers on campus. Lee has the football angle, and the other two both have some questions they could answer while at LSU and really help their stock in the future...even though they will both be picked early this year.

Most people don't talk about Ryan Eades when discussing pitching. If he comes back healthy he should be really good.

Yeah, he is a real wild card. Shoulder injuries are tricky though.

Adam,

Who are the must haves from this class? You know a lot more about this than me. Considering who is not coming back on the current team, i.e. Gibbs, AR, Landry, etc.

Guys such as Kevin Koziol (3B), Ryan Eades (RHP/OF), Tyler Ross (C), Nick Rumbelow (RHP), and Marcus Davis (OF). (These are the must haves) not top 5 round talents, but all-sec players.

I now want everybody to take the players I'm about to list and label them a win-win situations, and I'll tell you why.

Gausman, Bedrosian, Lee, Cecchini, Jones, Southall, Leblanc, and Deshields Jr.

These eight are "5 stars" if you will. You have to tell yourself everyday no matter how much you want them to play college ball that they are going to sign with a major league team. All eight would see immediate time in 2011. Any player from this list that ends up at LSU in the fall is a "huge" cope for Mainieri.

adam, comment on this

quote:

That's because defending national champion LSU has offered young Jones a full baseball scholarship. You heard right: a full baseball scholarship. Not many of those get offered - not when you are dividing up 11.7 scholarships among 25 to 30 players.

I don't want to get in too much trouble because I know people high high high up in the LSU athletics monitor these boards.

But yes from a person I've asked, it's true. Pending of course the draft.
