It will be interesting who CJJ hires to replace coach Fitz. Just hope it's a good coach and recruiter. I wouldn't mind if it's a West Coast guy. I'd like to keep recruiting that part of the country at a high level while locking down our state!

Seems like we are striking out on transfers and losing coaches.
Common bubbz that statement is a reach

Anyone that is a sports fan knows it is an emotional roller coaster with highs and lows.
We will get a new coach and some portal guys and will be riding high again.

For a potential returnee that most may not be familiar with, Grant Fontenot is another interesting arm. RH in the low to mid 90s with a sweeping breaking ball and decent change. FB can be flat, downward angle but also can run it in to RH. He pitched well before the season but apparently had some off-field, non-injury issues (or maybe a bit of both). His comp is Grant Taylor, but Fontenot's breaking ball sweeps more than dives. In fact, they seemed equally productive coming into the season. Taylor faded this season, and you wonder if G Fontenot would have helped pick up that slack. Jay liked him when he was available, but you wonder what the temperature in the room is now.

He was mowing down our guys in the fall. I was really disappointed to not see him this year

I saw somewhere on Twitter (mlb draft league twitter), he was up to 94.8 so that’s encouraging

Also Aiden Moffett. He’s been up to 95-96 this year with a big breaking ball.

Hopefully he makes it campus

Yep. G Fontenot and Taylor both looked like closer/stopper material in scrimmages. Taylor flashed that some this year, but faded. I think Taylor has a huge upside if he can cut down on the walks - I know most would say he needs to develop a breaking ball but he has a curve and a change that weren't called very much. I have questions about not using off speed for certain guys - again, most would say their breaking balls suck, but they don't - it was non-use that had them lose feel.

Excellent prospect. Draft risk, though.
As an aside, we have several pitchers coming in that lose their hat after their delivery at an aggravating rate. Not looking forward to that.

I'm not disagreeing with you but I made it to quite a few fall practices. G. Fontenot looked good but it was nothing dominant. He basically looked as though he could contribute. I agree with you, it would have been nice to see him pitch. Perhaps he would have surprised me, like Dutton did. He could be a good piece for us next year or he could be one on the bubble.
We have to realize, we have 15 pitchers eligible to return on our current team, not including Fowler or Brady but including Bollman. We have 13 pitchers in our signing class, not including Guidry. We could pick up 4 in the portal. That is 32 pitchers and we need to get down to 19 or 20. We will probably lose at least 5 to the draft, probably more. Regardless of what happens in the draft, I think we are still looking at a lot of attrition. I don't think the attrition will come from portal pitchers or the signing class. It will problem come from our current roster. I'm not sure Fontenot will even make our roster next year.

Solid build, excellent student, has starter potential and the top pitcher in Mississippi. The fact that he picked the good guys over a Ms. school is a pretty big win.

I remember reading somewhere here that Aiden's mom is a principal or on the school board where they live and wants to see him go to college. Depending on where he gets picked CJJ has his mom on our side.

I mean, that's never bad. Coach's son that values the college experience, siblings that thrived through the student-athlete experience, etc...all those things that point to a kid coming to school. Bottom line, money talks. We'll see.

Priniple's son, not Coach's son but your point still stands. He is a person that values education and I don't think he is rated high enough to get huge money. I think he is more in that $200,000 - $300,000 range. That might be enough to sway some kids but I don't think it will this guy. I would be surprised if he isn't on campus. These are the kind of guys that are going to make this program a powerhouse.

I wasn't saying he was a coach's son. I was saying that kids always have these underlying things that lead you to believe that they will make it to campus.
And, I'm not saying he won't make it to campus. Just don't fool yourself by overthinking it. A person that values education is also educated and surrounded by educated people, and will help make an educated decision for their kid based on all of the details (not just the value of education).
Jay's pitch is great, in theory. We still have to see how it works out. NIL should help his pitch, but that's also still unknown.

You might be too late for that DRock. lol
I take the little tidbits we get on baseball recruits, convince myself how great they are and that they will make it to campus. I'm already there, too late to turn around now. Bring the draft on, I'm ready.

I know that I do not have any credibility, but I just wanted to share some info I heard today. This came from someone that I trust very much and is good family friends with the Jobert’s.
According to his family, Brayden was given a heads up from Coach JJ that his every day spot in the lineup could be in jeopardy for next year. The main reason being his struggles against LHP. It was noted that while the power numbers were solid overall, much of the production came during midweek games and the consistency in SEC play is tough to overlook.
I asked where does that have him leaning for his future and was told that JJ suggested strongly considering taking any opportunity that presents itself regarding the draft.
So, that’s not to say the kid won’t decide that he still wants to be a Tiger and comes back to compete and earn his spot, but don’t be surprised if he signs as a late round pick or an undrafted free agent.
Again, I’m not pretending to have sources or anything like that. Was just something I was told today from someone I talk LSU baseball with nearly every day and wanted to share with you guys.
Whether he returns next year or moves on, it was really cool to see a local kid work his way in to purple and gold and do what he did this year. Had to be a dream come true and I know I speak for everyone when I say thank you to Brayden!

If he gets drafted and I think he will he should go pro.
The guy wore an LSU uniform, had a hell of a year and made his dream come true. Even if he doesn't come back and only has that one year, I think it is still awesome what he did.

Not really surprising if true. Kid went into huge slumps, but you cant deny his power. He probably should go. If not, id think he would consider transferring to a lower level d1 school, like ull or tulane. Where he would surely crack the lineup
