Anyone know what the thread title was on this board that provided stats on how the teams that finished the highest in the final season rankings also had finished the highest in recruiting 5 and 4 star recruits the year's previous.

I remeber this thread and thought this. looking at the top few, they have all won or played for a NC in the last 8 years.
What do you suppost Fla. State, Miami and ND's problems are. Is it coaching or do you think the kids are getting overated just b/c they signed with the once powerhouses?

In Natre Dame's case I truly think it is coaching.

I think its coaching with all three...also how many FSU and Miami commits don't qualify?

Hard to believe people consider Coach Bowden a bad coach these days.

The most interesting thing on that list to me is West Virginia at #50. In the past few years they have competed at the top level beating both UGA(the year they beat us in the SECCG) and Oklahoma last year in BCS bowls.
I'm curious to see how they do this year w/o RR, and in the coming years once Pat White is gone. My guess is that the short lived glory days of WVU are almost over, but only time will tell.

I noticed West Virginia too. I think they are an excellent example of how a guy like Pat White definately makes a difference in the W-L column, but is singly not going to sway a recruiting class ranking.
Yes coaching factors into it. Yet, I also think that while we tend to focus on whether or not the 4 and 5 star recruits are over/under rated, a large part of it comes down to the quality of the 3 star recruits and that won't show up in the type of data we are looking at.

West Virginia has had good teams even before Coach RR arrived on the scene. Pretty sure they played for MNC back in the 80's.
