Incorrect P bean. Perception is reality in recruiting. What the recruits think of the class is important.

Well what is the plan, sign 6 or seven good lineman every other year? That does not seem like a good plan.

P bean, I sincerely doubt you are an expert in recruting.

If you think anyone on this board, or really even rivals or scouts, is a recruiting expert, then you have proven yourself a moron.

Alright, people aren't exactly excited about Jacobs, Fordham, Blackmon and Bates. There isn't that superstar recruit like RR or Sheppard like we had last year. That coupled with the fact that we didn't sign T. Reed and lost M. Davis has most people thinking this class is not that great.

BUT: This is a solid class and people are overlooking guys like Zach Lee, Eric Reid, Justin Maclin, Ronnie Vinson, Evan Washington, Tyrann Mathieu and Travis Dickson who will all be solid players for LSU in the future. We also have some guys with big potential in Justin Hunger, J. Gore, Spencer Ware, D.J. Welter, Alfred Blue, Jordan Allen, Elliot Porter and Cassius Marsh who may turn out to be big time players. This is a solid class that will help make up the bulk of the depth and core of LSU for the future. It will be a top ten class and things will be fine. Plus we still have a shot at Wright, Fobbs, Fergeson and LS.

Have a nice day.

Dammit P. bean. Just dammit. Is there anyone on this board willing to concede that loading up on quality linemen every other year might not be such a great plan?

You got about 10 DEs there a and a couple of guards. Thats not very impressive. Maclin projects as more of an OLB hopefully.

I don't really see how the 2010 class is "smelling like a turd" in anyway.

That said, I do think the pressure to ink 2011 commits could be a bit of a pr move to illustrate to fans/media/recruits that we are still raking in top talent.

What is horrible about this post is that we have a fine class (WTF about the smell like a turd). You have no perspective -- 2ned best QB in TX, all of the best athletes that we offered except Travon, a good pick-ups in TX, MS, FL, GA -- and with 4/5 players we could get Wright, Moses, Ego, Lache, Owens......... This is a terrible thread started by someone who doesn't know crap.

Oh yeah, to answer your initial question as well. I think the early 2011 commitments are more about identifying the best talent and Louisiana and locking them up early to keep other schools at bay. The process of offering Jr.'s schollys to gain favor is becoming more prevelant and LSU has to combat that with all the talent in Louisiana next year. Usually LSU doesn't offer that many committable offers to JR's.

I believe not aggressively recruiting quality lineman every season is a bad strategy. That is a reasonable concern. I am not a sky is falling poster.
