Legit question...Maurice Hampton committment baseball vs football

Is it possible to offer a scholarship to baseball at LSU so that we don't waste a spot in football in the case Hampton decides to go MLB? So come February, he doesn't commit. Hampton then accepts the baseball offer and that way if he bolts to the MLB, you don't lose a spot in the 25 for football. If it pans out, then I realize a baseball scholarship is more valuable then a football due to sheer numbers. But if this guy is a first round talent, wouldn't that be something that could be done?
Just curious.

No. He would not be able to play football for like 2 years if he came to campus on a baseball scholarship. Additionally, he wouldn't be getting 100% for baseball unless we fricked someone else over.
Why are people so ready to tell Hampton he can't sign an LOI on the chance that he goes pro in baseball while they're okay with saying Rodney Sopsher should sign an LOI even though he's a guaranteed non-contributor that may not even qualify?

There are less than 12 full scholarships for baseball every year. Rarely do baseball players get full scholarships because of it. Then how would that affect the already ridiculously low baseball scholarships if he does go pro?

Yeah I know the limit is 11.6 and no one gets a full one.

I am not a fan of taking Rodney either. If Bama isn't we shouldn't have to.

Because with the Rodney/Ish deal you are at least getting Ish (the #1 rated DT in the country). If Hampton signs and goes MLB you get nothing. You can’t even fill his spot with a Juco of grad transfer or use it next year to for an EE

If he is a major risk, then looks like we just need to roll the dice and take our chances that he doesn't go Mlb so he can play both here or don't offer him and hope he goes Mlb. Hate to lose him to Ole Miss and he go play two sports there.

But he had a "LEGIT QUESTION"
Posted on 12/18/18 at 1:12 pm to MrJimBeam
Will baseball even make room for him on the 25 since he will miss fall ball
Sign him for football, if he goes MLB route, then you can pursue a transfer at that point.

Is this a serious question? Baseball is the reason he's been committed as long as he has.

I would have thought as long as you’ve been here you would have known you can’t use a baseball scholly for a football recruit.

I am almost positive that you cannot play football on another sport’s scholarship but you can play another sport on a football scholarship. So even if he just signed a baseball scholarship he would have to play baseball first next year then in 2020 he can play football but then would have to go on a football scholarship.
If he does that does he then count towards the 25 you can sign in 2020? That’s where it gets fuzzy.
I say just let the guy sign and take the chance. If he leaves then you lose one signee for football but if he stays you get a stud in two sports. That seems like a good risk/reward.

No... you can’t fill his spot with a transfer against the signing class 2019 or 2020. If he signs then we lose 1 of 25 2019 scholly slots for good, and it can NOT be backfilled.
