The annual Ragin’Cajun prospect camp took place Sunday afternoon with over 250 high school athletes in attendance. Several athletes attended the came with offers in hand from the Cajuns and the staff were looking at a number of athletes for possible future offers.
Hardcore Cajun football fans look forward to this time of year as high school athletes come out to the Leon Moncla Indoor practice facility to participate in the annual prospect camp. A number of athletes attended the camp from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama, hoping to get noticed by the Cajun coaching staff.
One of the names familiar to Cajun fans is New Iberia Catholic quarterback Taylor Bullock. The 6-3, 205-pound Bullock came to camp with the only offer from the Cajuns at the quarterback position. Taylor is also holding offers from Tulane, Louisiana Tech, with Rice and SMU rumored to be close to make offers. Bullock wasn’t the only quarterback that Coach Munoz was watching closely, as Alabama Gulf Shores’ Logan Paul and Live Oaks David Bell also received close attention during the camp.
The 6-1, 185-pound Logan Paul’s 2008 season stats were very impressive, passing for 2,480 yards with 20 touchdowns; 360 rushing yards with six touchdowns. Paul ran a 4.7 forty and is a quarterback the Cajun coaching staff will keep a close eye on during the fall.
David Bell is a 6-2, 205-pound quarterback out of Watson Live Oaks High School. In 2008, Bell completed 85 of 163 passes for 1,078 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. He added five touchdowns and 321 yards rushing. Bell ran a 4.8 forty and caught Munoz’s eye during the camp along with Bullock and Paul.
A number of offensive and defensive linemen on the Cajuns list attended the camp; Offensive linemen Tyler Duval 6-3, 300-pounds Catholic High, Baton Rouge, Ryan Zeller 6-4, 260-pounds St. Michaels, Joshua Trahan 6-4, 332-pounds Lewis-Cypress Texas and Tyler Huval 6-1, 300-pounds STM.
Several defensive linemen drew notice from the Cajun staff, including local product Brennan Pope 6-1, 220-pounds Lafayette High, Kenny Welcome 6-1, 270-pounds McDonogh #35 and Lawrence Cayou 6-4, 246-pound McDonogh #35.
Other defensive standouts at the camp were LB/S Cameron DeJean 6-3, 195-pounds STM, Safety Trevence Patt 6-0, 185-pound Breaux Bridge, CB Marcus Goodfrey 5-10, 175-pounds Dutch Town High, CB Lysander Williams 5-9, 170-pounds Carencro High and CB Terrence Getret 5-9, 165-pounds West Monroe high.
A number of wide receivers and tight ends attended the camp; several names to remember are TE Nick Scelfo 6-4, 220-pounds St. Michael High, WR Reggie Travis 6-3, 185-pounds Plaquemine High, WR Dominique Miller 6-3, 180-pounds Woodlawn High and Jereon McGilvery 6-3, 185-pounds Northside High
