but he's already proven he's adept at luring assistant coaches.
How adept do you need to be when you pay those kind of salaries....

Okay, I'm not going to flame on you this time, but I seriously want to know what you think the Tennessee head coaches ability to hire assistant coaches has to do with LSU recruiting.
This is of course ignoring your incredibly short quote that makes no sense without explanation and some reasoning, your lack of a link for the people who would actually like to read the article, and your flacid commentary on said quote.

They actually overed less than LSU for Orgeron.
They are listed fourth in total salary paid including the head coaches salary. Behind Bama, LSU, FL, and Auburn in the SEC.

Yes we understand the reasoning..
You elected not to pay your unproven coach the kind of Salary an Urban, Miles or Saban coach demands, who are proven to have won championships..Until Kid Kiffin is found worthy of such compensation, he has extra cash to spend on assistants
Your boosters wanted to open up the pocket books for a great staff...Good for you, welcome to the 21st century of college football.
Chavis served UT for 17 years and you were paying him 350k..Not chump change, but way behind the elite programs today..
So, what do you do? you hire Kiffin Sr, a 70 year old legend for 1.2 a year..
That's radical change for sure

I am impressed with old man's energy

I've already boarded the "I am sick of hearing about Kiffin" train

Why do Vol fans fabricate to make themselves feel better about their program or institution?
No one else in the world has seen that LSU offered (the word you can't spell nor know how to use) anyone $900k.
You are shutting down academic departments, laying off a good number of faculty and staff, no current university president, losing the best of your few highly rated in-state '09 recruits to SEC foes, an unproven coach that's pissing off high school coaches in florida, etc.
How desparate are you to be relevant again? Really? Just win on the field and stop trying to convince everyone else of how great you will be in 2012. Beat Wyoming, first.

quote:UT offered Orgeron 50k more than LSU did.
They actually overed less than LSU for Orgeron.
The whole 900k thing was basically a bullshite story to convince the gullible UTK following that coaches come there for something OTHER than money.
Ogre came because the money was right, that is all.
Learn it.
Live it.
Love it.

I hate lane kiffin so much that I don't even do him the service of capitalizing his first and last name on the message board. Take that motherfricker.

Another fabrication..."Monte Kiffin invented the Tampa 2" while everything that's written on that style of defense is accredited to Tony Dungy and what he took from Chuck Knoll and Carson.
At best, they mention Monte as part of a team that fashioned it to Tampa's personnel...
Now, UT will continue to live in denial because they don't want to believe that anyone else knows or runs this defense but Monte Kiffin.

quote:
That aggressive approach is the foundation of the Tampa 2, the style of Cover 2 defense made popular by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tony Dungy, starting in the mid- to late-1990s. Actually, it all started in the 1970s with Bud Carson's Steelers defenses, for whom Dungy played defensive back. Dungy learned the Cover 2 from Carson. In Cover 2, two safeties play zone (area) coverage, each of them responsible for half of the field. Dungy's Bucs had great success dropping a speedy middle linebacker (the "Mike") down the middle of the field to defend the pass, creating a three-deep look, while four often undersized but quick defensive linemen rushed the passer. And so, the Tampa 2 was born.
At best, they mention Monte as part of a team that fashioned it to Tampa's personnel...
quote:
It was a combination of the Tampa Bay staff that was lead by Tony Dungy. That staff included great coaches like Monty Kiffin, Lovie Smith and Mike Tomlin. Tony Dungy took the ideas he had while playing in the NFL, especially from the Steelers playbook that Chuck Noll created and expanded on their ideas to better suit their team speed.
Now, UT will continue to live in denial because they don't want to believe that anyone else knows or runs this defense but Monte Kiffin.

Orgeron said himself he was offered 900K. I would think he would know what he was offered.
The post made it sound as if UT was paying more than anyone. We pay less than LSU, Bama, FL, and Auburn.

If LSU had offered him 900k, our AD would have been immediately replaced.
Also, if LSU had offered that, Ogre would no doubt be wearing purple.

How is it that UTK fans want things in writing or print when it is not favorable, but you would go off, of all people, Orgeron's "word" when it makes you feel good about yourself?
Interesting...see how that works?
Please reopen the academic departments at UTK and close the athletic department.
