Fair enough. But that recruit is someone we really wanted and (fortunately) got. I think Trovon Reed is an idiot for deciding to go spend the best years of his life in Auburn, freakin Alabama. I think Justin Hunter is an idiot for signing onto a shaky Tennessee team because it's a little closer and he likes the jump coach.
However, I have no ability to cure that idiocy. I do, however, have an ability to not trash my alma mater or its football team and I do have the ability to not talk out of my arse about a high school kid that I might have watched 4 minutes of game highlights on. I don't have to be a yes man and I can make constructive criticisms, but I can try to make sure all of those criticisms are "constructive" and I can at least think about what the parent of the kid I'm discussing might think about what I say.
You may think they are being silly and you may think this thread is silly. But they make the call, not you.
Anyway, I just thought true LSU fans would like to know about the opinion of a parent of a recruit. I've said my peace. It's up to you to decide what to do as fans of the team.

Okay so, you're a five star RB, you go to a major program like LSU on a recruiting visit on a weekend like Florida or Alabama. You get the proverbial red carpet rolled out and everyone from the head honchos to the nobodies turn out to figuratively fellate you the entire time (and probably some tramps not so figuratively). You have grown men in powerful jobs just fawn over you for two days. You party with some of the best known college athletes in the US. You eat like a king... and then you go home and decide you don't want go there because of 40 year old assholes who live in their mom's house and bitch that Trovon Reed is a turncoat?

The recruit in question was a 4 star and we almost didn't get him. Believe whatever you want. I will choose to believe the parent. That being said, I agree with an earlier poster that those in disbelief appear to be the ones who bash the most. Accepting the criticism of a recruit's parent would mean they would have to acknowledge that they may have done harm to the program they profess to so dearly love. Even in an anonymous message board, such acceptance is hard to be had. That's kind of sad.

When people read these message boards, they don't think of that fat 40 year old virgin living with their parents. They think of us as a reflection of the LSU fanbase b/c they have nothing else to compare it too. Some of you are ignorant and will continue to be dicks. That's fine, yall are going to do what yall want. I just wanted to share why us other LSU fans don't appreciate it.

If someone doesn't some to LSU because of a message board, then I say hit the damn road. We have had enough flaky idiots burn us in the past. We don't need any pussies. We need guys that will stand up and act like a man.

I'm not saying that SOMETIMES it won't affect SOME recruits. But this is so small I don't know if it is worth worrying about. For the record I don't like bashing of recruits, but some people don't want any negativity regarding coaching, the program, recruiting at all or take criticism as "bashing" and that is going too far the other way for me.

I don't want to overstate the case. The parent said that they read the boards to get a sense of the LSU community and the parent said they were a turn off. The recruit did have other reasons for considering other alternatives. And he is now a Tiger.
But the point remains.

1. A recruit letting message board bashing or chatter OF ANY KIND affect their decision on where to go to college is immature, silly, and a horrible display of determining what's important in making a decision.
and
2. Bashing of recruits on message boards DOES, WITHOUT A DOUBT, have an affect (to some degree) on a recruits decision as to where he is going to school.
