There is a difference between getting on kids early or offering early, and just breaking all of the contact rules in the book. With Diarse in particular people were complaining after his freshman season....and didn't realize they were complaining because LSU wasn't going out of their way to break the rules. Great he went to Alabama's camp in 2010. Did he go to LSU's? Was he invited?

I hate the way LSU is having to offer kids earlier now than in the past but if other schools are doing it you have to do it.

I'm sure somewhere, there is a fine line, but I just can't see where a recruit needs a commitable offer sooner than Junior Day. Otherwise, the silliness never ends. As it is, there exists enough gray area surrounding offers. Schools and kids are finding out the hard way that it's not a perfect system.

I do think LSU is much like Texas, in that they both have the luxury of being somewhat selective, and can treat their respective offers as premium. Definitely not the norm for every school or state. I do realize that this comes at a price sometimes, but I feel that any other way devalues your product.

We had great classes during relatively down years, and certainly, just as at any other level of competition, there will be cycles of moderate, good, and great players from this state. But, just as things were never as good as they seemed only months ago, they are not as bad as they are portrayed now.

Wahoo, I was kidding around.

Well, that makes more sense. I just as soon spend my time calling out ones that deserve it.

Breaking what rules? You're constructing strawmen, I see. Here's what happened. Miles dithered

What rules? Who was complaining? Are you just making shite up?

If memory serves, in 2010 it was noted by some on one high school board and here that Diarse got invited to Bama's camp the summer after his freshman year and that maybe Leslie should pay attention. He didn't and Saban leads on a top Louisiana recruit. No surprise.

"What rules?" The NCAA rules. I thought that was understood, sorry for the confusion. As for who was complaining....you can search Diarse threads on this very board all the way back to that point if you want specific names. And I simply asked if Diarse attended the LSU camp in 2010 and if he was invited. It's called a question, if you have the answer it would be greatly appreciated.

Both are good players, but if either/both want to go to Bama, then we will be perfectly fine

It seems that everytime an in state prospect goes to another team, we say this. At some point, it will stop being true. If we can't keep our top talent at home, then eventually we will begin to slip. One thing is for sure: we sure as hell won't make up the difference with out of state recruits.

Diarse going to the Bama camp after his freshman year was just pure happenstance. Demarcus Hodge was invited and the Neville coach took Diarse along. You don't really have to be invited to those camps. As long as you pay the fee, you can attend and workout. The only difference is that players are separated by interest. The Bama prospects are in a different group than the other campers. Diarse just happened to be talented and stand out.

The rules the poster is talking about are a good point to be honest. Everyone has been making a big deal about how Bama was all over Diarse before we were. That is very misleading unless rules were being broken. Contact is very limited to kids that aren't in the current signing class. Schools aren't allowed to call kids that age every week or at all. The phone call contact doesn't start until Sept of JR year( used to be anyway. It could've gotten pushed back to summer before sr year like the offers) . So unless rules were being broken by Bama or any other school, that heavy contact that put Bama in the lead is way overestimated. It's minimal at best unless Diarse was the initiator of all the contact. In that case then the problem is not the LSU staff.
