I knew where here was going two weeks ago

I wish LSU would just cut bait with TJ after this year and bring in a young up and coming coach who can recruit and relate to these high school kids.

You dumbass. I never berated you because you called it. I berated you because you were stating the obvious. You said he would commit to Texas if he got an offer and I said "No shite."

I do agree with Keys Open Doors on this. I'm not saying he should go to LSU, but Texas will recruit 5-star point guards just about every year. I think Felix is a little overmatched there. He's an insurance policy for Texas. He should have gone to a slightly lower-level school.

This is not a surprise and we have covered this in depth. I think the signing of Hickey made Felix expendable. I'm not saying LSU didn't want him or didn't offer. They wanted him and offered him, but he wasn't as a high of a priority as before. This is more of a blow from a PR standpoint.

With the Gathers, Derenbecker and Felix news all coming out in a 7-day period, it seems a little like piling on.

Felix going to Texas is fine; missing out on Gathers hurts.

Did ya see the lol jk part?. Was DJ a five star coming out? I think only a four and Felix will get that fourth star, look how it turned out for him.

It's going to be tough sledding for Felix at Texas though. They've signed 3 pgs in the previous two recruiting classes, 2 of which were blue chippers from Findlay Prep.

The way that pipeline is working right now, if Felix is even comparable to one of the Findlay guards they will have to consider their relationship with that basketball factory before throwing an "outsider" into the lineup.

I beg to differ. Felix will likely be a 4 yr guy there and he'll probably red shirt his first year. Those blue chip guys are won't be there past 2 years so I think Felix will do fine there at Texas. I'm happy to see him to go to a decent program.

Didn't one of them jump to the league and also the kid that's coming in this year is projected as a one and done. Mock draft has him going sixth.

Agreed. Losing Gathers means Trent has to have a hell of a season. He needs to make the tournament and win a game or two IMO.

That's a good point, but you can never guarantee how long these guys will stick around. Plenty of sure shot 1-and-dones turn into 3-and-dones.

Hope it works out for him though. LSU made their move in regards to Felix when they signed Hickey, so I have no ill will towards him. I just hope for his sake that this is the right move, and he is not looking at the current situation with blinders due to the fact that he fell in love with the school 3 years ago.

According to Scout, Rivals, and ESPN the SEC had more top 25 recruiting classes than the BIG XII last year.

One year doesn't prove all that much, and the SEC should outperform the Big-12 in this regard ,most all years, even in Hoops, even if you wanna call Ky vs Kan as banner carriers a push, then going school for school down the line. Even with the rise of Texas as consistent Hoops power, even with the Big-12 having Dallas/Houston at times surpassing the Atlanta metro area as a more fertile D-1 Hoopster recruiting grounds of recent.

SEC Hoops Fandom(er lack there of), is what hurts this league most, more than the HCs and supposed recruiting flaws and limitations.

I think the knock on him is that he's not a good shooter

WHy do people say this? anyone can learn to shoot better when you do it year round.

They used to sya that about Jason Kid, and all he has done is become one of if not the leader in 3 pointers in NBA history.

A point guard gets others involved, shooting is the last requirement.

Even if he had Gathers Trent needs a big season.

I said it because that's the only negative that scouts give him. I also agree that a PGs last worry is to shoot the ball which is why I don't think it's a big deal.

ETA: Jerry Meyer tweeted that Felix has good 3pt range so maybe his shot has improved.

Dj was a four star because he was sick during the summer. Dropped him down. Was a five star prior to that.

Well that reasoning makes absolutely no sense for a basketball recruit.

This really isn't true at all.

Kidd changed his game to stay in the league longer. I'm sure Rondo will learn to make a free throw by the time he's in year 17.

Same is true for Kobe. His game has changed through the years.

I'm sure Texas appreciated DJ Augustin shooting 44% and 38% from the 3-point line.

Word is that TJ will not play the games with the AAU guys and "handler's".........

Not sure how true this is......but it sucks to lose the top guys in La every year.

This isn't true either. We've lost two big names for 2012 but your statement is completely offbase.
