The Willie Williams recruiting diaries are amazing. Although the FSU and Miami diaries are probably more famous because of the extent of the luxuries provided to top prospects like Williams, my favorite has to be the Auburn diary, where he talks about the farm girls with the weird accents

It is clear to me that Willie is an intelligent guy who was also incredibly immature in high school and let fame get to his head. I bet he will play in the NFL, but he won't be drafted or be given any second chances. My prediction is that he will play for a few seasons but not distinguish himself from other back-up LBs. The lack of good coaching has probably stagnated his development a lot.

I'm glad they did that story. Willie wasn't your stereotypical kid, he did have some personal issues but he always had a good foundation of people who cared about him and stressed the right things.

I'm just glad he's happy and growing up. If he can finish up his schoolwork, that's great, if he gets an opportunity to play pro football, even better.

BTW, those NAIA schools that face him have to be cringing knowing what that sort of talent can do in that league.

Its awesome how many recruiting rules were set in place after Willie's story was told..

Willie ran through the tunnel of pretty much every DI college stadium with a personalized jersey on..and he was a senior in high school.

What makes this clear to you (that he is intelligent)? I don't get it. Can someone eggsplane (explain) to me?

To me, he sounds like an uneducated thug with an attitude? At the very least a damn thug!!!

So far, it also has been a great experience for the Union football program. Williams has helped his team win its first five games for the first time in the program's 46-year history. In his first game, Williams had two sacks, recovered two fumbles and was named the NAIA national defensive player of the week. He already has a team-high seven sacks and 57 tackles – 26 more than any of his teammates.

good stuff willie

seriously, solid article. When they have a bye week I hope he comes to Baton Rouge to check out Greg play...

his mom admitted Miami wasnt the right place for him to go looking back on it. Miami's defensive scheme didnt fit him very well.

but if you are getting playing time as a rFr i dont think that is that bad. im sure by his junior year he would have been a starter. probably just didnt wana wait that long.

Being a thug and being intelligent are not necessarily mutually exclusive. No one is every going to accuse Willie of being a Rhodes scholar, but he was still able to pull higher than a 3.0 at a very good private school for at least two years. He also scored a 1070 on the old SAT. Willie might be the most scrutinized recruit before Jerrell Powe, and no one ever questioned the legitimacy of his academic scores.

These aren't earth-shattering scores, but they are much better than what the average blue-chip recruit is pulling these days, and most of them are attending some pretty awful public schools. I also have a hard time imagining Willie sitting at home with a Princeton Review guide

Don't get me wrong. Willie was a ridiculously spoiled kid and definitely acted like a thug in his high school years. But if he ever grows up (as the article suggests), he could definitely be a functional member of society, unlike some other high-profile guys with character issues.
