Let's just hope that one of the pay sites doesn't get pissed off one of these days and takes legal action & attempts to shut down the rant...hey, you never know...

This could not happen, no matter how much they don't like it. TD can not control what their posters put on these boards therefore cannot be held responsible. On the other hand if it is brought to their attention that copy righted material is up and they don't remove it they could have a problem. Quotes from people are not the possession of the people they are being made to. Also TD has to be officially notified in writing the content in question was illegally posted and then given sufficient time to remove this content. I don't think anyone can say TD allows this activity to happen as closely as these boards are monitored.

Hay Chicken,

How do you have time to post at 11:48 on a Tuesday?. You should be "Solving complex business problems for large multi-national corporations".

By the way,

That is not an occupation. Your occupation should read, "living in my mother's basement".

Actually, copyright owners have an huge sense of of entitlement these days. It's welfare-esque.

This is debatable. If the copyright owners don't want it posted here, it's their responsibility to send a takedown notice. All this site has to do is comply with the notice. There is no duty to proactively police the board.

This may be true, but being in "da bidness," Chicken must show respect for the other's turf or Brian will wake up with a chicken head in his bed.

They can make their content read-only and choose not to do so

Also, yes you can definitely post quotes from a premium article, which is all that we really care about anyways. You can't own the spoken words of another person, so a premium site doesn't own the quotes of a recruit.

I think the board has some duty not to participate in any infringement, at least some standard of due diligence. A policy against pirating protected content is at least prudent.

If one is going to post, he should should comply with the Fair Use Doctrine and other applicable laws, including any terms of use governing any site to which he belongs.

You can repeat (in a summary fashion) info found on other sites, and you should credit those sites.

Also, please do not use this forum to bash the other LSU sites. On the flip side, don't use this forum to promote the other LSU sites.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicken,
I'm a little confused(and I know I am going to catch hell for being so dimwitted), but if you quote from the other sites, then you want us to properly credit them with said quotes. HOWEVER, you do not want us to promote the other LSU sites. So, in essence, if we gleen any information from another website, it must be in our own words so we don't tarnish TD's image and risk bannage.

Am I right?

I understand not posting a premium site's article word for word. Fine. Articles like this are the property of that site. Whatever.

I don't really understand why someone can't bag on one site and say they like a different one better. Are we policing people's opinions now? WTF? Unless TD has a monetary agreement with another site, I don't see why it matters.

Not that I care, I don't pay for any pay sites because they all suck... jk....not really

I do not represent the board but I can think of several reasons for the policy.

In an earlier post I discussed the copyright and fair use issues to some extent.

There is the unfair competition aspect. One cannot allow the users of this board to pirate material and post it without some action from the premium sites to protect their interests.

It also has to do with the quality of the Tiger Droppings product. I do not want to log in and read flames of other users and bashing of other sites. I want to read information that is useful. I am not so devoted to the subject that I care one way or the other about premium sites.

because it amounts to promoting one when you bag on one...I don't think I need to give those sites any more exposure than what they already get on this site. And I don't see the need to allow a business to be trashed. These are my fellow media brothers.
