I don't even think its really worth a discussion. Outside of Blackmon and Bates I don't see many questionable takes

wasn't JD Lott a take off his camp performance?

this is the reason you have to take some longshots at some positions in some years

it's not like LSU has 5* DLs on their board who are beating down the doors to come to Baton Rouge this year. The staff knows that and if you have to fill a need you get the best you can

Taking a guy like Blackmon this early is probably an indicator that LSU is not on the Jeffcoat's and the alike's radars

i dont mind it, unless you start filling up the class and taking these kids. LSU is right on the edge with that, but i think we'll be ok with the numbers in the end.

Lester you honestly don't have any idea.

Mathieu was offered based on a 7 on 7 supposedly

Lester, they probably had watched tape of a ton of games that Mathieu had played last year though. They hadn't on Blackmon bc there is supposedly no good tape according to him.

He was there for a 7 on 7, but didn't participate in the actual camp. He already had an offer before that.

Are you saying the coaches would be better off just waiting to see how recruits play & how the various services rate each player before offering them?

Personally, I believe that has been the secret to LSU's recruiting success this decade--get the recruits in the camps & see how they perform against other 4 & 5* players, not look at a film of Al Woods blowing up some spare 180 lb. HS LB that won't play at the next level.

They're going on more than just camp performance, not that camp performance is less important than game film. In both cases it was simply a matter of the players not being as exposed as some other players. The little film that is available backs up the camp performances. As well as the assessments of the HS coaches.
