1995 was a long time ago. What exactly happened to Neville after 1995?
Neville always played up and could beat any team on any given Friday for years and years... then numbers caught up with them like expected.
Neville has never been a 5A school by the numbers, we just had a great feeder system and were always good enough and had a good enough tradition to play up. Neville is actually a small school (there were around 800 kids while I was there) and it is public so no recruiting like Evangel, John Curtis, etc.
On top of that, there has been a lot of rezoning in Monroe that has hurt Neville's athlete districts, which now belong to Carroll... the reopening of Richwood screwed up a lot of the rezoning I think
It's a combination of things, but Neville's low numbers finally caught up with them. They moved down to 4A now, but technically they could be 3A with their numbers.
Its just funny because I remember the days that the worst 2 teams in the vaunted district 2-5A were West Monroe (until early 90s) and Bastrop (until turn of the millennium)... you could count on beating those two teams by 30 points annually, and Ruston, Ouachita and Neville were the powers every year

played against his bro Jerome...he had a ton of potential too...think he went to Southern Miss after an average senior season, but Miami, LSU, etc. were all courting him at one time
Wasn't due to an average season. He was a beast. It was due to grades. He wound up at La Tech. I saw him a while back and he's even bigger now. He's one of those Power for Jesus guys. The ones that travel around lifting ridiculous amounts of weights to show the power of God or something like that.

We had a guy that went to Arizona State, started at FS his Freshman year, got booted in the offseason for dealing steroids. BTW, he was a huge douche in high school. Our football pretty much sucked, but our baseball team had 3-4 guys every season get scholarships, me included.

My SR year, i think 7 of the starting 9 got scholarships not including the pitchers.
3 were drafted out of HS, 2 choose college. the 3rd went pro(4th round).
the other 2 guys ended up getting drafted again out of college, 1st one 10th overall, and the other in the 8 or 9th round.
then they had guys like Liuzza who played at LSU..Southard from Tulane..both are playing in the minors now.
so 5 from that team are playing minor league ball..pretty impressive.
