How is the Composite Done

Keep seeing folks say we're ranked #5. Scout has us at 12, ESPN at 10 and Rivals at 8. The 247 Composite has us at 5 somehow.
I checked their website and it says:
So as best I can tell, LSU must have had extreme variability amongst several players, where a bunch of people thought a player was highly ranked and one site was down on him and then other sites were down on a player that all of the other sites highly ranked.
That's the only explanation I can muster.
I like the class. The rank is just for keeping score, but curious to know if people who spend way more time on this can better explain how a class ranked elsewhere 8-12 got a #5 overall composite.
I'll hang up and listen.

The 247Sports Team rankings are calculated using the industry-generated 247Sports Composite player rankings - which is a proprietary algorithm that gives equal weight to the player rankings from all major recruiting networks to create the industry’s most unbiased and comprehensive rankings.

Including ESPN in the composite guarantees an annual #1 composite for Bama.

Basically this. Every player, except McMillan, Fournette, the TEs and the specialty guys, was a 4 star or better on at least one site. I don't think we've ever had a class where the individual player rankings varied so much site to site.

We probably had a bunch of highly rated 4 stars. Maybe they grade more on points?

Composite = (Rivals+247+ESPN+Scout)/4
BamaComposite = (Rivals+247+ESPN+Scout)/4 +1

well i know for a fact CVO is ranked a 3 star on one service. Donte Jackson is only a 5 star on 247. Guice is a 5 star on some sites and 4 on others. there was a lot of variation this year
