SIAP...NCAA has ordered schools to remove portal entry names that have recently entered outside of the new portal entry windows. I think they've also atleast acknowledged the issue of coaches leaving mid-season by giving athletes from those schools an automatic 30 day window to enter the portal. Even though those that entered don't have to actually transfer in the windows they set forth, I hope this is finally the beginning of restoring some sense of sanity as it relates to what has been a complete shitshow, IMO.

doubtful...weren't they trying to make it possible to have unlimited transfers a few months ago?

It seems the rules change on a whim. To me it seems the portal should be closed during a season. I'm assuming a lot of it has to do with college educational requirements. What do I know other than 39 scholarship players sucks for a bowl game?

I don't disagree at all with you. It seems as though that by not opening the December window until the CFP teams are announced, they're trying to juggle that with the December early signing period. Otherwise, IMO, there's no real reason to open it before the season ends. Personally, I believe the transfer portal should be available ONLY if the coach gets fired or leaves that school AND a new coach has been named. Otherwise, if you transfer, you have to sit out a year just like it used to be. That might help to encourage more loyalty to the school a kid decides to go to. With that being said, I really don't know how any of that would help a team like LSU, who were left with only 39 scholarship players, or how to get that number to 85 unless it's exactly like it has been. Maybe that kind of situation happened before the transfer portal ever existed, but I don't ever remember it being something that happened often. I do know that I'm just a dumb fan that never really gave any thought or had concerns about transfers prior to the portal.
