College coaches could hire high school coaches with this new recruiting rule

I wasn't really making a big deal about it, because somehow this slipped past me.

This is so retarded

In basketball, you can't hire a coach for an off-court position and recruit his former school. I'm wondering if those rules are in place for football now.

From what I read on 247, they can.

They're not. It's gonna be a clusterfrick.

there needs to be a whole lot more clarification of these new rules, because everything I have seen so far is just setting up for a huge clusterfrick

I chuckled when I first read about the change. Immediately I thought Saban/Bama was gonna go nuts with these new opportunities. You thought recruiting was dirty before?

It's terrible for the sport, and from my understanding, there's really no cap on how many people you can have on board.

Obviously Juluke should be at the top of Miles' list, but I wonder if we can pull him from a brand new job. Getting paid six figures to recruit the area you grew up in wouldn't be bad gig, though.

no way we are going to take him from Tech to be a glorified scout

Any idea what he'll be making at Tech, or what his official position is? I haven't read anything that says what he'll specifically be assisting with.

Like I said, making 100k+ to scout New Orleans isn't a bad gig.

doesn't really matter, he is an actual coach there, which is a lot better for his career

I highly doubt these positions are going to bring in that kind of salary

No one knows much yet. The way I read it, these guys that are hired are making 125 for game planning and recruiting analyzing.

Well what is he coaching? Again, it just says assistant position coach. This is from NOLA.com when he was hired:

quote:

While it isn't suspected that Juluke will be the recruiting coordinator, he will be responsible for recruiting the New Orleans area.

Seems pretty obvious that he was hired for the inroads into New Orleans. Being a "glorified scout" at LSU isn't exactly a career dead end for a guy that was a HS coach in December.

I've seen the $125k figure thrown around on a couple of different 247 sites. Someone correct me if this isn't the case.

Holtz still hasn't clarified, but he will be on the actual coaching staff, which currently isn't an option at LSU.

I don't doubt that he would be good in that role here, but I do doubt we have a chance at taking a guy off of his first gig on a NCAA coaching staff, and throw him in a non coaching role.

can't really see how you think that we would be able to swing that

Yes, it would be hard to swing that. Saban is offering current HS coaches jobs, which is a step up. But to go from a college coach to analyst is a step down unless you don't want the stress of coaching.

Regardless, I want to hear what LSU is doing on this front. Hopefully they have a plan and are going forward after the CC announcement.
