I'm not completely up to speed on the recruiting situation right now....I know we've got a handful of scholarships to give, and are on the final list of several five stars.....i also know several of the services are pegging us as having the strongest class.....So if someone could, i'd appreciate a couple the answers to the following....

1. How many "surprise" 5 stars do ya'll think we've got to get in order for us to have a consensus "best" class?

2. How many of these uncommitted 5 star guys do we have to get before this class is considered legendary, ie, we not only have the consensus best class this year, but have a class that only comes around for anybody once a century type deal....

3. Whats the current thought on Randle.....is he coming?

4. If we get none of the uncommitted guys, how do ya'll think we finish in the "even more mythical than the associated press" recruiting poll?

5. Which one of our current commitments (other than RS of course) is being considered a "savior" type player....

Anyone that can help me out here - I'd appreciate it.....

I will take a shot at this..

1. Well, right now we have the top class on rivals, and I don't see us losing that position as long as our class stays intact. Now if we were to pick Campbell and Randle, for example, I don't see how any of the other services could have us anywhere but first. We are also after some four star players (Montgomery, Mingo, etc) that would be big pickups.

2. I would argue that this is already one of the best classes in LSU history. To be a once in a century type class, I think we would need randle, debose, campbell, and to flip Fluker or Richardson from Alabama. I don't think we will get the two from Bama, but the coaches continue to pursue it, so I guess there is hope.

3. From what I understand, Randle is an LSU/Bama battle and will be until NSD. There is a good article on Randle in New York Times today.

4. Not sure about this one, but I can't see us falling out of the top three on rivals even if we don't get anyone else. I think we will get at least of the 5 star guys hopefully a few of the four stars.

5. I don't know if RS is a savior, but he has already had a huge impact on the program by helping with recruiting. Right now I would guess that Randle would be an important pickup because he is superior athlete from louisiana and it would be fun watching jj and rs throw to him in the years to come.

These are just my two cents.I am sure others would disagree, but I hope this helps

On Rivals since 2002, the highest number of 5 star signees was 2004 USC with 8, however 3 were JC. The highest number of 5 star HS signees (limited to top 30) was 6 by 2007 USC (#2, 6, 8, 11, 17, 29).

Why does ESPN have USC listed #1, LSU #2? Is this the typical ESPN slant?

I'll answer a couple of those.

If we get RR then it's going to be consenus

If we get no one else after Loston we're still in great shape.

Nope. Our recruiting class is getting as much love as anyone's. The ESPN rankings there I believe, but I could be wrong, were before the USC class started falling apart (with Pressley's decommittment). They had a nasty class going. However, we will end up at number 1 on ESPN.

We could very well have about 15 of their top 150 players.

Unbelievable.
