The problem is that OL, more than probably any other position, is a position in which the player needs time to develop, both physically and including technique. Very few true Freshman come in ready to play. There is a big difference between say a 20 year old after a few years in a college weight room program and an 18 year old coming out of a high school program.
So, when you aren't consistently getting the numbers and giving them time to develop, you end up in a bad way like LSU and having to go the transfer/Juco route.

I don’t think any of us knows the staff’s opinion of the underclassmen that aren’t playing much.

The overall OL numbers are not too bad, perhaps a few short. But if the underclassmen are busts, then there are major problems.

How do they feel about the redshirt freshmen, true freshmen, etc? Martinez (true freshman) is the only one of this group getting many snaps. And he’s not getting much.

The redshirt sophomores/true juniors are playing a lot (Rosenthal, Wire, Hines) as are the RS juniors/true seniors (Ingram, Deculus).

Shanahan is the only redshirt senior.

Total of 13 scholarship OL, 7 of which are true or redshirt freshmen.

But regardless, we should be pulling in 3-4 OL every class.

Can’t be stated enough!!

Getting skill players isn’t a problem for LSU, but they need to make a wholesale changes in the recruiting strategy of OL.

Honestly, it’s not the amount of recruits..the problem is either in evaluating or developing...possible both! But big changes needed
