The state of LA and AL simply can't compete with what Florida is producing and doing on the recruiting front this year. It's just not possible.
the main reason we are both behind is because of NCs.....now if we can follow up with one this year then you can say we are their equals....we shall see....2 NCs for Les would solidify him as one of the great coaches in CFB and allow him to step complete out of Saban's shadow

So instead of having three teams splitting the talent, you like 1 team to have it all, making it easier for us to contend.
When Fla St and Miami were national powers, how many National Championships did LSU win?
Even though Florida has gotten stronger, that has not hurt LSU. The two programs have mirrored each other somewhat.
And as far as having to deal with a team like the Gators every year, the BCS now rewards teams for top caliber competition.
If ACC teams Miami and Fla St were still on that level, they would probably be taking turns playing in national championship games.
Florida St and Miami not being good pretty much kills any chance of the ACC sending more than one team to a BCS bowl, let alone the National Championship game.

2004:
3) Miami
4) FSU
8) Florida
2005:
3) FSU
11) Florida
12) Miami
2006:
2) Florida
12) FSU
14) Miami
2007:
1) Florida
13) Miami
33) FSU
2008:
3) Miami
8) FSU
12) Florida
2009:
18) FSU
21) Florida
24) Miami
The only year they pulled away was the signing period two months after they won the NC (2007 signing season).
That year they just smashed in-state for Lorenzo Edwards, James Wilson, Torrey Davis, Deonte Thompson, Major Wright, Chris Rainey, John Brown, John Brantley, Pouncey Twins, Brandon Hicks, John Jones, etc, etc.
They will do the exact same thing this season in-state, which will be, again, one year removed from an NC.
As for Miami and FSU falling off, I don't see that to be the case at all. They might not get the same wins on Saturday (or thursday or tuesday or whenver they get airtime now) as they used to, but they can still recruit.

I bet you are not saying that when Brandon Spikes is punting a football into an endzone where Andre Debose and a handful of other recruits are sitting.

No--but I was saying it when Jacob Hester was ramming the ball down the Gators' throats on fourth and one.
I don't mind battling it out with the Gators every year because they are an elite program.
I'm thankful we're not in a position like Va Tech, Ohio St, or USC--teams that play in conferences with no other major contenders.
So when BCS bowl selection time comes:
Va Tech plays in the Orange Bowl
USC plays in the Rose Bowl
OSU gets exposed
And either Florida or LSU plays for the National Championship--SEC teams get the benefit of the doubt because the competition is so fierce, not in spite of it.
I like those odds.

That only happens if/when the powers of the other conferences have as many losses as the SEC winner. If Texas had stopped Crabtree on the last play of the TTech game and if Penn St. had not lost to an underdog the MNC would have been Texas vs. Penn St. It seems more likely than not that most years the SEC will eliminate each other from the race.

Not yet, but its inevitable that it will. We have to play FL every year- no other SEC west team does. That means if they are an elite team, we have to beat them twice in a season to reach the MNC. Bama, for instance, would only have to beat them once most years. In a single football game, anything can happen.
You can make the argument that we could lose to them in the regular season, then beat them in the SEC 'ship, but still the odds favor those other SEC teams that can avoid FL until the SEC Championship.

Books and Chinaski just beat me to my own points.
Dude, do yourself a favor and just admit that you were wrong.

i would say the year a one loss UF won the national title while we finished finished 3rd in both polls with 2 losses they may have hurt us just a wee bit.

So youre saying the LSU is at the top with Miles or Saban, whereas Bama is nothing without Saban?

neither LSU or bama has the instate talent to compete w/ UF this year, they will have an absurdly loaded class this year
I agree conceptually, but we were saying USC's class was untouchable this time last year.
Things can happen and we need not underestimate the national recruiting pull LSU is building.
But yeah, Florida Talent + Crystal Ball = banannas

I'm glad LSU has to play an elite team like Florida.
Makes the Tigers better and makes it easier for the bowl selection committee to make their decision come year's end.
You listen to a lot of kids and their reason for coming to the SEC and they say it's because they want to play against the BEST COMPETITION.
If competition bothers some, then so be it.

Florida has us both in a trail of dust right now, but we should end up with solid classes in a down year anyway
I'm guessing OP doesn't keep up with recruiting much. Word is there may be another coming for us shortly.

You think they're happy about having to play us every season?
