For those that think 1 scholarship out of 85 will matter or has ever mattered, do some research and come back and show me any year in LSU or any other school's history where all 85 kids on a roster contributed in their careers.
That wouldn't prove anything, burning up one scholarship in this class is in no way equivalent to eliminating the least productive guy on the entire team. Giving away one scholarship in this class eliminates a project/marginal type of player that would get the spot to fill the class. The types that often fail but sometimes become great, and sometimes become great at another school.
Jerrard Randall was a late add last year because we had a spot available. Bennie Logan (project) and Brandon Lafell (marginal prospect) come to mind as late adds that were backup plans. It's these type of players that the coaches are able to gamble on when they have spots available that will get missed.

Lafell was a 5 star on espn and was never a marginal prospect or back up plan.

Swing and a miss on that one.
Even if you were right, my point is still valid.
