yeah, that happens every single time a RSFr takes over the spot.
UT has a defined system and plays in the big12
hell look at gabbert at mizzou, without near the talent at WR to throw to
bradford, mccoy, gabbert, resing, freeman, etc have all come in very young and did well

What is Demarco Cobbs going to play instead of receiver? Strongside defensive end?
Look, Garrett Gilbert is a big name recruit, but just about every single young 5-star over the past few years has had some adjustment problems when he is thrust into a situation.

i just posted a list of QBs int he big12 who did very well, very early
it's common, if you can recruit a talented QB and/or have a good system

If you paid even a modicum of attention to recruiting, you would know that he is no more likely to play WR than several other positions. He might end up at WR, but to say that UT has "5 other WRs committed" is pure BS.
Cobbs himself has said that he was recruited as an ATHLETE and not as a WR.

What position will he play?
At 6-1 and rougly 200 pounds, Cobbs is listed as the ninth-best athlete in the 2010 class by Rivals and has the ability to play several positions in college, the foremost being wide receiver. A quarterback for his Tulsa Central team, Cobbs also plays defense and could play safety or even outside linebacker in college. With his excellent feet and explosiveness, running back is another, though much more far-fetched, possibility -- it seems unlikely since the Longhorns alreadly have two other big running backs from the 2009 and 2010 classes -- Chris Whaley and Traylon Shead. Given the similarities, it doesn't make much sense for Cobbs to play running back in Austin, though his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands opens up a variety of possibilities for his use in the Texas offense. Possibilities as varied as Greg Davis' creativity will allow. So yeah, there's probably not a great chance of much creative stuff.
As for a personal preference, Cobbs understands that quarterback will not be his position in college, but still desires to have the ball in his hands, making wide receiver his first choice. Since the Texas coaching staff asks incoming players what position they want to play and attempts to accommodate those wishes, it's probably safe to say that Cobbs will start out as a wide receiver at Texas, though he could be an incredibly physically imposing presence at the safety position. Cobbs did say after his commitment that the coaching staff hasn't decided where they would prefer him to play.

Freeman struggled mightily in his first year.
The other guys adjusted smoothly, but Clausen, Barkley, Kyle Wright, Corp, and Mallet all came into stable programs and didn't look like superstars right off the bat.

I'm not sure what sounds more promising, a 4.75 safety or a 198 pound linebacker with 4.75 speed.

Freeman played for K-State. 'Nuff said.
It's easy to step in a frosh and play really well as a QB in the Big-XII. Think of all the guys that have been damn good... McCoy, Bradford, Johnson, Reesing, Daniel, Gabbert, etc. Heck, how many have actually come in and stuggled early that weren't on piss poor teams?

I think all of this drama is going to be about nothing.
Davis will still end up at LSU, IMO.

Yeah, it seems like no one is specifically naming Davis as the guy. It just seems like he is one of three or four reasonable targets along with his teammate.

What happened is this story was "broken" by Ketchum on Orangebloods, whom almost all UT fans (and certainly the coaching staff) despise.
Ketch ended up with egg on his face with the Cobbs commitment a few weeks ago. ESPN's Texas site (Insidetexas.com) knew about Cobbs' impending decommitment from UTenn for 3 weeks, but sat on it until Cobbs gave the OK for them to run it. Ketch and Orangebloods had no clue what was going on, which wouldn't be the first time that happened.
So I think this whole Mike Davis thing is purely a subscriptions-grab and an attempt to not be embarrassed again, even if the info turns out to be purely speculative with no solid basis, which also wouldn't be the first time that happened (e.g., last season with WR Cobi Hamilton - Ketch had Hamilton committing to UT while Hamilton was on a recruiting visit to Arkansas! Then when the info turns out to be false, he takes the info off his site! THis is LOL stuff, yet Ketch gets away with it).
So we'll see. I don't think Davis will end up at UT, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
