Lufkin coach on Russell Shepard
Shep against Lufkin in HS playoff
His play, combined with four Lufkin second half turnovers, was simply far too much for the Panthers to overcome.
"I don't think it was the turnovers that hurt us tonight," Lufkin head coach John Outlaw said. "I think it was a guy named Russell Shepard. He's a man among boys.
"You see him do this to other people, and you don't think he'll do it to you. Tonight, he did it to us. Nobody's done that to us in 11 years. LSU is getting themselves a very special player."

Micheal Ford!
When told the final total was 299 yards, the assistant excitedly said, "Nobody runs for 300 against us!" (lol)
You know a player is special when opposing defenses are hoping to hold him under 300 yards rushing. When that's considered a good game, it's special.
Ford rewrote the Leesville record books this year. Take a look at his final numbers: 2,952 yards and 29 touchdowns. Twice he broke the school's single-season rushing record, rushing for 335 yards against Sam Houston, and then 443 yards against Tioga. He averaged 8.8 yards a carry and 246 yards a game.
He finished his career with 20 straight 100-yard games: all 12 in 2008, the four games he played last season and the last four of his sophomore season.
But the numbers don't tell the whole story. If you talk to Leesville opponents - players and coaches - what they rave about is the fact that Ford ran over them, kept his mouth shut, went back to the huddle and did it again. Unlike many of today's stars, Ford isn't a prima donna and doesn't talk trash on the field
Special player...
the class seems to have High character Athletes...

Special Thanks... (Posted on 11/24 at 2:10 p.m.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...to Verge Ausberry and Randall Gay.
My son was diagnosed with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy at age 2. He is now 11 and is confined to a wheelchair. I wanted to make Saturday's trip to Tiger Stadium a very special visit. I emailed Mr. Ausberry and asked what could be done. He gave me and my son a personal tour of the Football Operations Center. It was AWESOME! While we were there Saturday morning, we met Larry Porter, the running backs coach, and he was very engaging and friendly to us. We entered the weight room while the gymnastics team was working out and coach D D Breaux was awesome as well. She was so super nice to my son and took him to the indoor practice field so he could watch TGBFTL practice. He was speechless. The equipment room guys hooked him up with free sweats and pull over and the video production guy gave him a DVD of all of the motivational videos from 2007. Everywhere we went we were greeted and treated like VIPs. It was spectacular.
Additionally, Randall Gay found out about my son and what we had planned for game day and went out of his way to ensure that my son recieved a ball autographed by this year's team that Saturday morning.
After the tour we saw the band come down the hill and went in early for pregame. After the bitter loss as we were rolling out of the stadium, fans everywhere were very disgruntled, including me, but then my son grabbed my hand and said "Thanks Dad, for the BEST day of my life." The pain of the loss soon left and was replaced with a warm satisfied feeling that reminded me of why I was a tiger fan to start with.
The people make LSU special, and to those people, I cannot thank them enough!
Forever LSU!

Everything on pace for WR Benton (5 Star!)
David Folse II
TigerBait.com
BASTROP, La. — While LSU fans are nervous about whether or not they will get the nation's top-ranked receiver for the Class of 2009 in Rueben Randle, all signs are pointing to Les Miles and his staff finally getting a player they have been recruiting since 2006
(Someone close to Benton posted about a month ago that he is in excellent Physical shape.)
If we could count Benton for this class, that makes 4 5 star players thus far!!!!

Calhoun, the nation's No. 9 rated athlete, has also kept an eye on his future school. That LSU faltered down the stretch of the season, finishing the regular season with a 7-5 record, was of little consequence to Calhoun who will graduate from Tucker later this month, take his official visit Dec. 19 and enroll at LSU in January.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It didn't really bother me at all," said Calhoun, who was visited at school Monday by LSU co-defensive coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto. "Every team has a down year. I tend to look ahead and know things will be better in the future."

Fresh off a 55-48 playoff loss in which he accumulated more than 500 total yards and six touchdowns, Russell Shepard’s high school career is officially finished.
The Cy Ridge High School superstar is now eager to start his college career, which looms closer as the NCAA officially cleared him Tuesday for early entry into LSU.
“I’m an LSU Tiger now,” Shepard said. “I’ll be enrolling in school January 9. I got the official word [Tuesday]. I am ready to go in, get my playbook, learn and get into the fight for the starting quarterback position.”
Following a season in which LSU’s quarterback play was anything but steady, the Houston native is aware of his growing reputation before ever stepping foot on the grass in Tiger Stadium. He was recently featured on Snoop Dogg’s TV show “Father Hood” giving advice to Snoop’s son at a quarterback camp.
“It all just adds to the hype,” Shepard said. “Coach Porter and coach Miles talked to me [Monday]. They realize that I’m coming into school as probably the most hyped player that’s come to this school since Ryan Perrilloux. They coach me up on it and teach me how to handle it, but it just adds to the hype, adds to the pressure that’s going to be put on me.”
But Shepard refuses to fall victim to his own reputation, knowing hype alone does not equate to success on the football field.
“I’m the first one to tell you that hype is hype,” Shepard said. “I have to go in and prove myself to teammates and to my coaches. I’m not going in with a big head. I’m going in as a freshman, somebody that has to work their way to the top. If I go in and do what I’m supposed to do, I can go down as one of the greatest players in LSU history. I’m all for the challenge.”
Shepard said he will receive his final transcript from high school around Jan. 7 and will move to campus in about a month. But until then, he is still helping recruit for the Tigers in hopes of landing one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, speaking with top prospects like wide receiver Rueben Randle and Alabama running back commit Trent Richardson.
Shepard said he will actually be Trent Richardson’s host when he comes on an official visit to campus after Christmas.
“Rueben [Randle] is focused,” Shepard said. “Right now, I think he’s kind of down to three schools: LSU, ‘Bama, and Oklahoma.”
Shepard said the worry fans feel about losing Randle probably stems from the loss of John Curtis’ Joe McKnight to USC in spring 2007.
“I think Joe McKnight scared a lot of people because that was the first big recruit they lost out of [Louisiana] along with John David Booty to USC, but I think we’ve got Rueben [Randle] for the most part,” Shepard said. “Of course you never know until signing day. I think if he comes to LSU, he’s going to find a quarterback that he can run with throughout his whole three to four years and kind of develop a relationship with.”
Shepard said the potential for coaching changes along with the Tigers’ late season collapse could have an effect on recruiting.
“It’s definitely going to weigh in some people’s minds,” Shepard said. “It depends on the coaching staff to go out and recruit kids as well as me. But even losing like this can help: A lot of kids are going to have to play early next year.”

This Quote from Shep... (Posted on 12/9 at 11:01 p.m.) Posted by Joe Montegna

Shep did a interview with www.wwlsec.com and he pretty much said everything he has been saying but this one answer he gave really got me excited for the future.
Q: You mentioned,” We are going to do some things at LSU that has never been seen before,” Is there anyway you can elaborate without divulging too much?
A: “Yes Sir, The SEC has yet to see a QB who can stretch the edge, like I am capable of.” “Tim Tebow is a great Athlete but he is not as fast.” “The SEC has not seen the speed that LSU is looking to field soon, by having the likes of Holiday myself, and possibly Debose with Toliver on the field at the same time.” “Florida is fast, but we are looking to be faster.”

Even with all these great players, all I wish for Christmas is a decent DC.

Janzen Jackson receives a 5th Star ranking on Rivals top 100. #16
This give LSU 3 5 stars to date 12/10/2008
With Craig Loston this gives LSU 4 5 star players
Andre Debose also received a 5th star (considered an LSU Lean)
Rueben Randle was upgraded to the Nations Top Player (LSU/OU/BAMA?)
This will be LSU top rated class in school History
Rivals Top 100
