Does LSU owe Clemson some thanks in regards to recruiting?

Bama and Clemson both recruit nationally but Bama has also poached top Louisiana talent for years. King of the mountain status has certainly helped Bama in that respect. Now that Clemson has finally made many question that status going forward and also making Bama work harder to get the national recruits they are targeting, is it helping LSU? It seems like Bama has not been as dialed in on our local talent lately.

Sure, it creates another problem on who is going to challenge Clemson going forward, but I'd be fine if we could gain ground back in the SEC first before worrying about that.

All I can tell you is that LSU, Bama, and Clemson will finish with the highest classes and get well over 300 total points on the composite. UGA will probably be up there again, I think we finish 2. You make some valid points, but I think it has more to do with our staff going all out for national recruits now. A lot of kids are finding it very appealing to play at LSU again, and not just kids from the South. It’s a national level now.

A huge part of our problem was because Les hardly ever had a backup plan for us losing a top in-state kid to bama. We were reactive instead of proactive. Much the same as when Cam wouldn’t let go of recruiting Franks, he had zero to fall back on and the result was we ended up with kids that weren’t cut out for SEC play and they transferred after one or two seasons.

This season more than any other, you see O and staff not putting us in a position to get screwed by a recruit that we are all in for. They are being proactive and widening our net which in effect means that we recruit on a bigger level nationally.

I think the relatively rapid recruiting cycle with the early signing period favors an aggressive, all out recruiter like O (who always did well) and Dabo over the more methodical approach by others. Now, I'm not saying Saban's methods won't still work, particularly with the amount of resources Bama has dedicated to football recruiting, but the slow play/wait (also favored by Miles) seems to be a relic of the old way.

Now, evaluations are key, camps are far more important and getting that 16th or 18th commitment before the season even starts seems to be much, much more important now than the old days when you could be sitting at 10 or 12 commits in October and still finish really strong.

OSU should be right there at well over 300.

I agree. As long as Saban is there, bama will finish top3

Ed O and Busch are doing work in Cali.. if we can start landing multiple DL studs we will be in contention every year

How is Ohio State feeling about Jarrett? I knew he was an early lean there, but now it’s looking like an LSU Tennessee battle.

They shouldn't be feeling too hot at the moment

Great news. I honestly think it’ll be LSU or Tennessee. I noticed a few posters mention a lot of Jarrett’s decision is going to come from his mom, and she has such a big weight in his recruitment. Apparently his mom is about as pro LSU as one could be, and he’s like best friends with Ricks and Burton. I feel pretty good about him right now, kind of started picking up major heat recently.

Well Clemson did snag Etiene from us so maybe there is a lil something for us to worry about. They have also grabbed a couple Louisiana kids recently so they may be establishing somewhat of a pipeline here

If LSU didn’t sell out for Cam Akers and focused on Etienne he’d be at LSU.

It’s still early. Bama will have a top 2 class as long as Saban is there.

I’d be ok with a lower recruiting class ranking if it was a glass full of OL & DL. That’s what LSU needs now. True OT’s. Hopefully they’ll land a few good ones this cycle

Regardless of Etienne, they still have that ability to pull from Louisiana. Constantin last year had multiple SEC offers.
