Would also be a very good way to rate the validity of the different rating services. For example, if the real ratings that come from your system consistently matches one recruiting service over another, then we need to start paying closer attention to that service.

Tough to do.. would be fun though. The hardest part will be the point system.

I am barely going to be online this week since I am away from home and have limited Internet access. However, I would be very interested in helping out with this kind of project. I have a couple of other things that I have been doing on my own about recruiting as well, but it is based more on player placement and star distribution than what you are trying to do.
I'm not any good at evaluating high school players so I've never been able to help out in Lynxcat's project, but this seems more up my alley. Unfortunately, I won't really be able to do anything until at least Saturday, when I get back home.

Well, I don't see the ball getting rolling super fast. And I'll be in Chicago starting Thursday.
Maybe we can work together on developing the formula?

Sure, that sounds great. I think the most tedious part will be applying the formula to 100 teams over a 6 or 7 year period, but if we split it up by conference, it should be more manageable.

For sure. Definitely will eat up some time. But we'll probably become pretty proficient in it by the time we reach UTEP

Dan
All conference.......well, IMHO 3 year SEC OR Big 12 starter >>> Pac 10, Big 10 starter. Same for years started......4-year letterman at TCU not the same as 4-year letterman at Oregon OR OSU!!!
The idea (of your Rankings), I like though.

You might consider points for a players work ethic and morals , keeping his nose clean and being a great role model, in other words that he has great character and can be an asset instead of a liability

Could schools be dropped points for players who leave for reasons other than injury or personal hardship (Corley, Elliot Williams, etc)? I realize this would be very hard to calculate though outside of LSU since we all know what's going on here for the most part.

Would be nice to be able to consider, but way too difficult. Obviously you have well published stories of guys like RP and such that were booted for disciplinary reasons, but what about guys that never really get in trouble.
For example, I would highly suspect that Adrian Peterson was involved in Bomar Gate and taking money from Big Red Sports and Imports. Never suspended once.
I just think it would be difficult to award/punish people for conduct when you aren't fully aware.

I think that's doable. Rivals does re-ranks of all players that actually make it on campus. So we could base the list off that and I'm sure with a small amount of research you could figure out who the guys were that didn't stick around and why.

Hmm, tough to say.
I would definitely agree that by and large the SEC stands above, but I don't know about the Big 12. Particularly above the Big 10, who may struggle with churning out "speed" but has produced an awful lot of quality NFL players (particularly from OSU) the last several years.
Also, I think that would be highly subjective because Pac 10 fans and Pete Carroll think they have the toughest conference. I don't think the Big 10 is disillusioned anymore but I know they still don't think the discrepancy is that large.

This could probably be figured into the equation somehow considering TCU is a mid-major and the competition both intersquad and interconference isn't nearly as stout as probably any of the major conferences.
