Riley didnt technically commit early. He was offered just a little before signing day and he accepted when he was offered.

JT Curtis has always urged his guys to take their time and think things out and take visits to see all options when they can.

McKnight

I just don't remember Wells or Howard being in that same class.

Dupard went to SMU during their heavy scandal, pre Death Penalty era, so that explains some things. Recruiting wasn't nearly the same as it is now. Stonebreaker went to Notre Dame during the Arnsparger era, so highly recruited.

Curtis people can argue otherwise, but LSU has not had great success with Curtis blue chippers, although there have been exceptions here and there.

Stonebreaker was always going to the Midwest, it's where his Dad was from. He was raised in NO because his Mom stayed after divorcing Steve, a former Saints LB. Gregg Dubroc was very highly recruited. We beat Bear Bryant for him. Murla and Malbrough had plenty offers, as did Clarence LeBlanc.

I'm sorry - we do not usually get very many Curtis bluechippers - early or not.

We have Riley and Gordon on the roster now. We've had 14 signatures since 1981 - 4 of which in 2003.

None of the eventual superstars.

McKnight waited until signing day, IIRC. He was consensus #1 or #2 player in the country, and #1 in the state, regardless of position.

Only comparable Curtis recruit to Dupre - at least in my memory.

Along with Jackson, probably represent our best players from Curtis.

(And Dubroc wasn't in my 14, as he was listed as "New Orleans" in 1981 - schools aren't always listed, and Kittok from the same class lists "River Ridge" - which I used as a proxy for Curtis for 1989 and earlier - I defer to more knowledgeable people on kids I might have missed.)

I need to walk it back a little anyway - 1 eventual "superstar" - Clarence LeBlanc - he started a bunch of games for us and played in the league - for a HS player, that is superstar status.

McKnight, Well, Dupard, Howard, Stonebreaker and Bua all played in the league - including LeBlanc, only LeBlanc went to LSU.

Bua was FAR from a superstar. He probably added his name to Wikipedia. He may have had a cup of coffee at the Dolphins Training Camp.
Dubroc played for the Giants.

Except that Bua was drafted by the Dolphins and actually played as a rookie (albeit mostly special teams), your correction regarding Dubroc is fair enough.

I'm not sure how long Bua lasted in the league, but he was on the regular season squad. I remember his career highlight, he made Espn jacked up for lighting someone up on a kick off

Re; Bua: just never liked him or his family. Girlfriend came into Tiger Stadium with "Prepare to be Nutted On" on a T-Shirt. Classy. He always talked shite about LSU.
