Harvey Williams

I was a Frosh the same year, remember walking to parking lot after classes, seeing Harvey that Fall pull up to the locker room in like a lime colored rust-holed bondo-jobbed early 1970s-esque Lemans type American muscle car on it's last legs..

By the next Fall, he's cruising in a brand new 1986 300ZX, with 2k worth of specialty rims, and an Alpine sound system with some sorta bazooka boom box in the back.

Funny thing is, it's all come full circle now, that hunk-o-junk he strolled into BR in, today is worth major dinero...a 1986 300ZX not so much.

Anything Huey Long did:
Art Foley - CLASSIC...although he later died. Huey sent him back home to Oklahoma with a new car.
Pinky Rohm - picked him up in a limo and brought him to lsu. This guy is the man behind the tiger rag and he was a badass. Who goes into the opposing teams locker room and cuts the seat of a rival player's pants and walks out unscathed?
Huey would go pick kids up at their house and take them to LSU.

I remember being at bayou bash for the joe McKnight fiasco. I saw grown men crying.

Side note...I remember Paul mainieri speaking at one and saying that they would go to Omaha (I think it was his 2nd season) in 2008. Literally everyone laughed. Little did we all know.

Might he been the same bash.

Wtf.. I mean I can understand frustration and some anger but thats ridiculous. And Joe McKnight didn't exactly pan out to his potential so we didn't miss much IMO.

Harvey Williams was going to announce at his High School that he was going to Texas A&M. He heard some girls making fun of LSU and when he announced he said he was going to LSU!

Actually, the girls were singing the aTm fight song and either he hated the song or they were singing it over and over and he got really annoyed. That when he made his mind up for LSU and announced it at school.

Years ago, Toby Caston was one of the first big recruits out of the Monroe area. He was in the Wossman HS attendance district, and a lawyer and Tulane alum named Robert Cudd moved him into a garage apartment so he could go to Neville, and presumably sign with Tulane. he was comitted to Tulane throughout the recruiting process, but on NSD signs with LSU. I don't know what went into getting him to flip, but I know Cudd was incredibly pissed.

Regarding the Randle/Benton thing, the rumor at the time was that Benton wanted a fresh start away from Louisiana for personal reasons and Reuben Randle's dad played the part of the a-hole to take the heat off the kid for going out of state. There was never any bad blood.

I believe that was Derrick Taylor back in mid 80's . Might have been against Auburn but can't remember

quote:

You are correct and it was against Auburn and he hit a shot from like Midcourt with no time remaining to win the game for LSU. They happen to have a lot of Football Recruits there for the game!

Yes! I was 9 at the time and DT was my favorite player. I remember that game well. Recorded it on the radio and listened to it over and over for years.

"Down to 3..2..Derrick Taylor from 25 feet... It's good! He hit the shot!"

January 20, 1982
69-68 LSU over Auburn
