There are a ton of 6'3" kids who are smart and can throw 70 yards (about 30 in PA alone),

Did you ever watch the NFL QB skills competition replays. I watched a few of them. One had Brett Favre throw around 68 yards and throw the longest. I never saw one player throw over 70 yards. I understand they had to throw between a confined space that was maybe 10 yards wide. Even out of bounds throws never went over 70 yards. I am not saying that some NFL QBs can't throw over 70 yards (there are some that can), but it is sort of like the 40 time. When it comes time for the NFL combine how come all these guys that ran 4.4s in high school all of a sudden run 4.6 and 4.7s? Saying there are all these guys all over the country that can throw 70 yards and are 6'3" I have to call exaggeration on that. I agree LSU has to find QBs that fit their system? But what is their system? What is their identity?

You are right, I probably exaggerated. 40 times are always exaggerated by 2 to 3 10's. Even at college summer camps, times are reported lower that they really are. At impartial combines, you get accurate times....although at SCouts last year in NO, the electronic timer did not operate properly, so times were thrown out. Rivals/NUC camp times are reliable, but many kids, like Tyler Bray, report 4.8-5.0 times, when at Rivals, he ran 5.45 twice-I am concerned about him ever contributing at Tennessee. But locally, Oliver at Catholic and Bell at Live Oak are 6'3" and can throw it 70+ yards. Watch them in the Javelin this year. Last year (as a Junior) Bell won 6-4A and made Regional and State finals, finishing the year ranked #3 in LA at 180' and (as a Soph) Oliver won 5-5A and made State and Regional finals, finishing just behind in the State rankings at 178'. 178' plus is a chunk and qualified these guys for "1st Team U.S. Elite" distrinction. My point was just that there are plenty of guys like that out there and it takes more than height and an arm to be an SEC QB. A lot of LSU excitement was generated this year by fans about a lot of local QB's, but they are really lower level I-A or I-AA guys (Broadway, Briscoe, Bell) who will play other positions in college (Meyers at Safety, Wright at receiver, Coon at Receiver). This has been a big year for QB's in LA though. The poor Duval boy has his name on this thread, but I'll stop adding to it.
