While I understand the want of an experienced transfer, I think we are in a very awkward position to offer one. Brennan is on track to graduate either this semester or early summer. If we brought in a transfer, he may serious consider entering the portal.

You can throw out the competition card, but that only works if you believe there is competition, and he already has experienced the late transfer arrival thing. Dude is at the point where he needs to play, and a transfer showing up will signal the staff's lack of faith in him. Regardless of intent, that's the likely interpretation. So a transfer is risky unless you think he doesn't have it.

The timing is just bad this year imo. If he were an established starter, then I think things would be different.
