Why do people keep talking about the weather in Oregon? The winters are actually pretty mild and you don't have to practice in 100 degree heat with 100% humidity. Their climate is great for football players. Also, you have to remember BB is not from the south. He would probably be more concerned with a Louisiana summer than a Oregon winter.

from the bayoubengalblog.com:

Other news on football and football recruiting - Bryce Brown was in town this weekend, and the word was his trip went OK. Brown's camp did a writeup of the trip at their web site in which LSU was named a serious option for his signature. I understand he was taken around by Charles Scott and Keiland Williams on Friday, and those guys all went to see former LSU fullback Shawn Jordan perform in an Ultimate Fighting Championship event in Baton Rouge (why does it not surprise me that Jordan ended up on the UFC circuit?), while on Saturday Shep served as Brown's host.

The way I'm told the trip went, this was a business meeting for Brown. LSU gave him a soft sell and didn't BS him about how wonderful the coaches are or what the girls look like and so on. Rather, they showed him exactly how they see him fitting in, how they handle running backs here and why LSU pipes backs into the NFL one after another, what's expected of him if he comes here and what his rewards will be. Brown apparently said after seeing Billy Cannon's Heisman Trophy in the Lawton Room on Friday that he wanted to win one, and Scott and Williams got a good chuckle out of that because the Heisman is something of a running joke at LSU where team play is stressed ahead of individual performance.

Now, Brown has two weeks before his self-imposed deadline of March 16 to make a decision. Based on all the stuff emanating from Miami last week it sounds somewhat unlikely that the Hurricanes are in the picture for him anymore, and with his friend Chris Hopkins, a Wichita kid who was at Oregon this past year and got him interested in the Ducks, supposedly transferring back home one wonders how serious a player they are anymore. That would leave Tennessee, LSU and home-state Kansas State from just up the road in Manhattan. I'm thinking before all this is said and done Brown is going to stay home and sign with K-State, but that's mere speculation on my part. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he ended up picking LSU; objectively I don't know if any of the other schools he's considering can offer the package of playing time (particularly in his second year and beyond), an offense conducive to a tailback getting to be the focal point of an offense, talent to win a national championship, big-time football atmosphere, player development and support off the field that LSU can. If he's serious about his career, he'll pick LSU. If he just wants to glorify his ego, he'll go sign with the idiots at Tennessee who have adopted the Ed Orgeron/Ole Miss no-shirt idiocy as their own. And if he just wants to stay being the local guy made good, he'll go to Kansas State.

Now that I've said this, watch him go someplace else entirely

You obviously have never been to Kansas! If you don't think Kansas summers compare with La., you need to go back and take some geography classes!
And as far as Oregon having "mild" winters, it depends on which side of the Cascades you're on. The Pacific side is indeed mild but the east side can get cold, very cold! In Kansas, BB has experienced both so I don't think weather would be much of a factor.

Having lived in Kansas for 5 years, I can tell you that winter is cold. The temps don't look too bad for most of the winter (upper teens to 30s, occasional single digits), but add the arctic wind ripping across the plains to that, and it feels like negative temps much of the winter. As far as summer is concerned, it gets hot (90s) for short periods of time, but the humidity is nothing compared to the Southeast. If you find shade, you can cool off. Not the case in much of the Southeast.

Since we're talking about Eugene, that should answer your question Einstein.

As for Kansas summers, I have been there. It can get warm, but does not compare to the heat/humidity combination in Baton Rouge. No geography lesson needed, but thanks.

What the hell part of Kansas do you live in?!
I live 125 miles from Wichita, used to travel there all the time and I don't EVER recall a summer when it didn't get up in the 100's!

East Central Kansas, about 50 miles from Wichita. It has gotten into the 100s on occasion (July), but that is definately not the norm (at least not since I moved here). I'm not even sure that we reached 100 at all this past summer. If we did, it was probably one day. It cracks me up when people talk about humidity here.

Volnation going facebook to recruit Brown:

First of all, my Facebook screen name is, "Buck "Owens" Naked", so get your facts straight, brosuf.

Just kidding.

He adds a lot of people, for sure, but that has to occur in one of two ways (which is significant, I think):

1. They have to ask to be a "friend" and he approves them

2. He has to ask them to be a friend and they approve him

To be sure, he's added some random people, but either he's reaching out to Tennessee players, or they're reaching out to him.....either way, it doesn't look like this is a guy who doesn't plan on being in Knoxville. In fact, it might suggest just the opposite.

The lack of players from other teams is also noticeably lacking.

He's also added another pic of Ms. Earps to his page which is entitled, "Bracey"...and he is still showing that he's "married" to her.

What does all of it mean in the grand scheme of things? Likely, very little, if anything at all. But maybe it does. Maybe not.

Personally, I think that it means something. What? I'm afraid to let myself say it, but I like it.

Just noteworthy tid bits to read into or ignore at your collective leisures.

Another post

Go ahead and add the following "Friends" to Brown's list, too (from last Thursday):

Kevin Revis
Chris Scott

I definitely agree about the humidity, or lack thereof. But when it's 104 or 105 like it gets in late July or early August, it's every bit as hot as a 95 or 96 day in La. Rare is the summer it doesn't get hot like that.
I remember back in 1979 here, it got into the 100's about mid-July and stayed there until Sept. The highs were 112-114 and the lows were 101-102.
Conversely, in the early '80's we had a winter with record snowfalls and low's in the sub-teens and highs of -1 that went from mid-December to the end of January. Froze my arse off!
However, overall, the weather here in this part of the country is fairly temperate.
It really makes no difference, however. My point was that the weather is going to be extreme one way or the other no matter where a player goes and in the end I don't think it plays that great a factor in the decision making process.
