Top247 DL Jamarion Carlton has announced a commitment date as the Texas product will make his college decision on July 10th. The six-foot-five, 240-pound defensive lineman is a coveted target as the official visit season nears. His recruitment recently saw a 247Sports staff projection to Texas A&M, while he also had a prediction leaning towards Texas.
Carlton makes the announcement right before his official visit to LSU, where the Tigers will have the first shot at making a good impression. It will also be a test for new defensive line coach Kyle Williams to work alongside Kevin Peoples and Blake Baker as a recruiter at the college level. Carlton will elect to go through all of his official visits before sitting down with his camp and making a decision. At 6-foot-4.5, 240 pounds, Carlton is ranked as the No. 33 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 3 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to 247Sports.
Other official visits locked in include: Texas (June 6-8), Texas A&M (June 12-14), and Baylor (June 20-22).
247Sports' Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks had the following report on Carlton last summer.
"Physically and athletically gifted front-line defender who could play from the edge in the long run, or bulk to a true defensive lineman thanks to immense frame space. Tall, long, and relatively lean with quick-twitch athleticism that shows in pads and in, frankly, wildly explosive basketball context. Raw physically and technically, but flashes high-level splash playmaking ability. Startling speed-to-power ability and impressive point-of-attack strength. Burgeoning hand violence and power. Limited shot put and discus reps create a three-sport athletic profile. Dynamic open-floor finisher in hoops, where second-jump juice regularly shows. Plays upright at times and will need to work on fluidity and flexibility. The move set should expand with experience. Looks like one of the higher-upside front-line defenders in TXHSFB's 2026 class. Displays surprising, sudden power for his age and build, and should only get bigger and stronger from here."
?Carlton will join a talented group of recruits who plan to make it down to campus for the first official visit weekend. He will be joined by Immaneul Iheancho, Deuce Geralds, Joel Wyatt, Jalen Lott, Trenton Henderson, Tajh Overton, Zaden Krempin, James Carrington, Emanuel Ruffin, Aaron Bradshaw, and Ben Mubenga.
The Tigers currently have the seventh-ranked recruiting class in the country, per the 247Sports composite rankings, highlighted by five-star wideout Tristen Keys. The Tigers have four-star defensive lineman Richard Anderson, four-star corner Havon Finney, and a pair of four-star safeties, Aiden Hall and Dylan Purter, committed in the 2026 class.
The Tigers would love to add a player like Carlton to the mix, but as the official visitor list shows, LSU is planning on hosting a good number of disruptors up front.

Bowe Bentley is down to LSU and Oklahoma and the four-star quarterback from Celina, Texas will be in Baton Rouge this weekend.
Heading into the trip, the feeling is that the Sooners have the slight edge in his recruitment even though four-star QB Jaden O’Neal is committed because Bentley is super close with new OC Ben Arbuckle and Oklahoma had a jumpstart on Bentley’s recruitment. But his relationship with LSU OC Joe Sloan is very strong and playing with all those elite receivers is compelling.
