you guys talk about class rankings, but look at all the top recruits that never saw the field or that got booted off the team.

If Rivals or Scout would go back and re-rank our teams based on the players that stayed and played we would be much lower than the original rankings.

You also have a coach that is a proven great recruiter and talent evaluator though. You can hate Saban all you want and bash him for anything you can think of, but he is widely respected for his recruiting abilities.

The bottom line is you cannot use Rivals as a gauge for how well a coach recruits. Shula fricking sucked at recruiting no matter what Rivals said. At the end of the day, the only thing Rivals is good for is shite talking from fanbase to fanbase. Stars do not matter when players get on the field.

Just to debunk this "star" argument one more time...

JPW: 3-star
Glenn Coffe: 3-star
Baron Huber: 2-star
Travis McCall: 3-star
Nick Walker: Walk-on
Mike McCoy: 4-star
Andre Smith: 5-star
Mike Johnson: 4-star
Antoine Caldwell: 3-star
Marlon Davis: 3-star
Drew Davis: 2-star

Bobby Greenwood: 3-star
Brandon Deadrick: 3-star
Corey Reamer: 3-star
Javier Arenas: 3-star
Justin Woodall: 4-star
Rashad Johnson: Walk-on

These are the starters left over from Shula. As you can see...NOTHING. Our better players are our 4-stars and above but Shula's recruits never made it on campus or got kicked off. Not to mention most of these 3-stars are 5.6 and 5.6!

Some of you should research your information before looking stupid.

I don't hate him nor do I bash him. I actually like him.

That's the point of my post.

Well we agree. I've always felt that way. Rivals is for fans and publicity, when it boils down to it..on Saturdays Rivals does not mean jack.

Trio,
Just curious, do you think Alabama had the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation last year?

bama needs to start worrying about getting over .500 and playing in a better bowl before they think about talking trash.

On paper..yes. When you look at the size and athleticism of the players we brought in, you don't find that on any other list (that many players that is). Notre Dame can also make a claim for the #1 class, we signed more people than them, therefore obviously more room for error.

But again, Weiss has recruited well every year but his team blows. Star rankings are not everything.

Saban is a overrated gameday coach and position coach. All you have to do is look at the game vs. Arkansas in 2004 and the Capital One Bowl following that game.

And whats the first step to accomplish that? Recruit better players.

And that's why you guys sold the school to Saban. Because on it's own, Alabama can not compete with the top echelon of the SEC. Trio documented that for us above. That's been proven.

Bama fans don't have faith in Bama. They have all of their faith that the man Saban will raise them up.

It will be very telling when Saban doesn't accomplish at Bama what he was able to accomplish at LSU in the same timeframe.

you aren't the only team recruiting well dude. the past few years, florida state and miami recruited way better than you, and they still have a mediocre 7-5, 6-6 season the past few seasons, you guys are the same. but i see you guys getting about 7 or 8 wins anyway.

Agreed...but I doubt he will win the SEC this year, and I doubt he will win it all in 2 years. The program is just in to bad of shape for him to do that. I'd say he will have us knocking on the door to be a national contender in 2 years.

Why do you say that? TD is the only board we can abuse Gumps without getting banned. Besides, they love the abuse. Are we not all SEC?

SEC, SEC, SEC!!!

I think it is more of a umbers thing than a class ranking. Our team this year has 9 seniors which is lower than any team in the country in D-1 football.

That's what happens when your coach forces players out to make room for his mindless drone recruits.

Every coach rebuilding a program does it. He did it at LSU, Spurrier did it at USCjr, Butch Davis did it at UNC.

I don't see you barking at them for such. The bottom line is he needs to give guys the boot. The talent level is ridiculously low. Some guys have been booted bc of problems, others have been encouraged to transfer to make room for better players.

It's a double edged sword, you can't bash him for not winning, and then expect him to keep the same sorry players.
