Let me tell you a funny story about how the pipeline works: about 15 years ago, give or take, a relative of mine was seeing an ole gal around the FP/Richland line who had a son in 8th grade that was enormous. Slow and dumb, but enormous. Think 6’5”, 240 8th grader with size 15 shoe. Never played sports in his life. Decides to go out for football. Nobody had any shoes his size, so the FP coaches made a call to someone who made a call to someone within the LSU ranks, who THEN made a call to West Monroe coaches and said “hey, there’s a giant looking for football cleats.” The WM coaches, by the end of the week, had the boy in for a tryout and, assuming he was good, had a job and a place lined up for mom, should the boy show promise. Long story short, he was dumb and slow and couldn’t move his feet, so they pulled the plug on the whole arrangement. But this situation just illustrates how quickly it can happen.

I’m associated with Neville and we have taken kids from FP, Bastrop & Lake Providence numerous times. We got Phil Mathis from FP, Lance Heard from Bastrop, etc. We are doing less of that with McCarthy being fully gone from the school now, but we would do it again.

My sister went to Neville around 96-97. I almost went there to play baseball because my old man used to live on Oakmont, not far from the school. I have a LOT of old school Neville friends haha, good place to go to school in my opinion. Kinda wish I had transferred there but I was happy throwing baseballs where I was. They weren’t a powerhouse in baseball during that era, but were obviously competitive in football during the Coats years.

Man you gotta be kidding!!! I live on Oakmont. So does Benji Lewis, the head coach at Ouachita. They have a hell of a squad this year!
