Can anybody tell me the difference in rankings between the "247 sports" top 100 vs the "247 sports composite" top 100
247 sports top 100 class of 2015
Donte Jackson is a 5 star and ranked #10 nationally in the "247 sports" top 100. And then on the "247 sports composite" top 100, he is a 4 star and ranked 56.

Composite is a compilation of recruiting rankings from others sites. The "247 Sports" one is their own rankings.

Or other sites as in 247's secret side service that gives their opinion?

Yes and 247 is part of composite as well, each count for a quarter of the rating.

I found this on 247's website...it doesn't say specifically which ones but it is safe to assume that it's the four: 247, ESPN, Scout, and Rivals.
quote:
247Sports Composite Rating
The 247Sports Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect "rankings" and "ratings" listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services. It converts average industry ranks and ratings into a linear composite index capping at 1.0000, which indicates a consensus No. 1 prospect across all services.
The 247Sports Composite Rating is the industry's most comprehensive and unbiased prospect ranking and is also used to generate 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.
More details
All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Sports Composite Rating.
The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.
A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.
All industry services have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Sports Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

The way the composite ranking works is a #1 rankings is worth 1.000 and then each additional spot behind is -.0004.
So let's say a theoretical prospect had the following rankings.
247- #3 overall (.9992)
Scout- #5 overall (.9984)
Rivals #7 overall (.9976)
ESPN- #29 overall (Hey it's ESPN, .9888)
Then you add those 4 up, divide by 4 to get composite #
In this case= .9960
Anything over .9830 composite is considered a 5 star I believe, the composite ranking order is from highest to lowest based on the composite number. This theoretical prospect would be ranked #6 composite in the 2016 class right now with these ratings.
Probably way more than anyone needed to know, but I'm an insomniac and these are the types of posts I make at midnight.

I appreciate the insight.
It caught me off guard when Donte was ranked #10 on 247 and then i looked at the composite at #56 and thought, WOAHH that doesnt look right.
And it all makes sense because Donte is not ranked very high on ESPN and Rivals.
