2019 Haynesville (La.) defensive tackle Joseph Evans had a big junior year, earning an offer from in-state LSU and committing to the Tigers quickly after receiving the offer on Oct. 29. The quick turn from the offer to commitment was all because of his dream to play in the SEC for the in-state Tigers.
"It was great. It made me want to play more, it made me better myself and it gave me more drive to play football," Evans told Geaux247. "It was good because that was my first big offer and hearing from a coach at big D1 school in the SEC, I had to jump on the offer because it's a childhood dream of mine to go to college in the SEC.
"For him to think my skills were good enough to play, it was an honor."
Ed Orgeron personally evaluated Evans when he drove up to Haynesville to recruit, watched the film, extended the offer and the two have been building a relationship ever since.
"He's good. He's a nice funny guy. Down to earth and easy to talk with," Evans said. "They like how I come off the ball, my power and my explosiveness. He said he's going to work on that and turn me into a beast."
After trips to Tiger Stadium to check out LSU's games against Arkansas and Texas A&M, Evans can see himself already as a Tiger in Death Valley.
"It was great. Going into the locker room after the game, the atmosphere was amazing," said the 6-3, 305-pound lineman. "I could see me being in the stadium being around that atmosphere."
After Haynesville's loss to Kentwood in the playoffs, Evans said that already has him thinking about next year and how he can get better.
"Starting from the summer, building my speed up and my muscle. Getting back out there and being better at what I do at my position."

This kid will be a great Tiger for us. Very intelligent with a great work ethic as well. He had a great junior year. He has tree trunk thighs and has a quick burst off the ball. I wouldn't say he is 6'3 though more around 6'1 1/2 or 6'2. He's only a junior so he will more than likely be close to 6'3 by the time he gets on campus. He got double teamed a lot this year, but still was able to make plays in the backfield. Also often disrupted the play too. Played both ways for Haynesville so he got a little winded at times because Haynesville lacks depth.
