24/7 Recruiting Evals - Interesting Stuff...

quote:
Ju'Juan Johnson, 2024 Top247 four-star S, LSU commit (in-person coverage): Johnson owns a well-established reputation as a dynamic, playmaking, high school quarterback, and he flashed why numerous times in Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy's 29-26 loss at Ruston (La.) in a seismic Louisiana non-district matchup. However, while Johnson racked up improvisational yards as a scrambler and made some how-did-he-do-that off-platform throws, he threw five interceptions, two of which Ruston's defense returned for TDs. Johnson and LCA rallied late and reached the red zone in the final minute trailing by three, but a fourth-down throw to the end zone fell incomplete to secure the Ruston win. Johnson's extensive offensive snaps likely aid in his football IQ and awareness as he transitions to a full-time secondary role. Athletically, Johnson's top-end gear is still a bit of a question mark, but his short-area suddenness and redirecting ability -- which will obviously aid his development as a defender -- fuel his playmaking ability as a high school QB.
quote:
Ahmad Breaux, 2024 edge, LSU commit (in-person coverage): Breaux started the game playing over the ball and often getting doubled by the center and a guard, but eventually got some snaps as an end -- often in a three-man front -- to get a bit more room to operate. Breaux is a strength-oriented front-line defender thanks to his leverage and upper-body strength. He also plays some blocking tight end for Ruston's offense. In both capacities, Breaux shows the need to improve his snap anticipation. His get-off is good, but he's sometimes one of the later linemen off the ball because of that snap latency. Breaux looks like a possible strong-side end or 3-tech type of player in a traditional four-man front, and will likely move from his current edge designation to a DL label accordingly. Expanding his move set and adding more nuance will raise his rush ceiling.
quote:
Melvin Hills, 2024 DL, Texas commit (in-person coverage): Hills represents another player whose effort level is not in question. Hills was quiet early but made some LOS stops as the game progressed. He has some point-of-attack strength and will rally back into plays that he initially does not impact thanks to his effort level. Hills seems to be a vocal player and the type of whom others might feed off. While Hills shows rallying conviction and phone booth competency, he can improve his explosiveness and suddenness, which would boost his disruptiveness and playmaking ability. His motor runs hot but Hills' athletic limitations likely prevent him from hunting down ball carriers at the next level.
quote:
Aidan Anding, 2025 CB (in-person coverage): I would nominate Anding for Player of the Game in Ruston's three-point triumph vs. Lafayette Christian Academy. A basketball player and Louisiana Class 5A state qualifier in the long jump, Anding was everywhere for Ruston's defense, which got two interceptions, one sack, and a deep-ball breakup from the 5-foot-11, 165-pounder. Anding camped at Louisiana Tech -- which is less than a mile from Ruston High's campus -- in June and got his first offer. He's an athletic, wiry, rangy defensive back with a strong athletic profile and a breakout performance in a marquee matchup that should draw more FBS attention.
quote:
Zheric Hill, 2025 LB (in-person coverage): Hill was a human precision-guided missile throughout Ruston's win against Lafayette Christian Academy. After the game, I texted Ruston head coach Jerrod Baugh to comment on Hill's play style, noting that he "plays with no regard for his own or anybody else's safety," to which Baugh heartily agreed. Not only did Hill fly around and set a physical tone, he provided one of the very best highlights of the game with his leaping, 37-yard interception return touchdown in the first half. Offered by Louisiana Tech in June, Hill is undoubtedly an FBS-caliber linebacker prospect, even if his verified size is unknown at this juncture.
quote:
Ahmad Hudson, 2027 WR/ATH (in-person coverage): Listed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, the freshman phenom had a quiet evening in Ruston's three-point win vs. Lafayette Christian, but in recent weeks has established himself as a 2027 prospect to know. Hudson, a basketball player, will give Ruston a ball-winning threat for three more seasons before heading to the college level. Hudson reported his first offer, LSU, in late August.
quote:
Elijah Haven, 2027 QB (online stream): The 6-foot-4 freshman quarterback put together one of the most impressive performances I’ve watched early on in the 2023 season. Haven has a quick, compact release and effortless arm talent that showed up with plenty of throws traveling beyond 40 air yards in Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School's 29-28 win at Donaldsonville (La.) Ascension Catholic. Texas Tech was the first school to offer Haven in the offseason, but I would expect the freshman to become one of the more coveted arms from the state of Louisiana in recent memory if this level of play continues.

Ruston seems to be stockpiling talent like WM back in the day

Seems we got the more versatile prospect in Breaux over Hills. Not really sure why Breaux was ever considered an edge.

nothing too shocking. I felt the guys who popped up early in the LA rankings were kind of overrated. Guys like Johnson, Hills, and Wardell Mack.

Breaux doesn't move well enough to play on the edge in college. He'll put on weight and kick inside where he should be a solid rotational guy along with Johnson. We need several more quality DT's and edge rushers though.

I think this description is something we will see a lot of for recruits under Brian Kelly. Every program needs these guys for sure and they help keep the floor of a program high, but I think BK cherishes them more than most.
ETA:
Yes I know he's a Texas commit, just thought that description made me think of this.

I hope this is the plan for him. If his play in AR a couple weeks ago is any indication then edge isn't going to work at the next level. Interesting to read that his get off was slow, something that has been said more than once and obvious to me 2 weeks ago

I hope these break downs are off.
