I’m pricing new construction windows and I’m only seeing two jamb sizes. 3.25” and 2.625”. If I’m doing 2x4 walls shouldn’t the jamb be 4”? 3 1/2” for the 2x4 wall then 1/2” sheetrock. Am I missing something?

The window frame will come into the rough opening an inch or so.
The entirety of the frame will sit in the rough opening, against the exterior sheathing. I just rip my jambs to fit, usually use poplar, sometimes duraprime, for paint-grade, a hardwood matching the other woodwork for stain-grade.

it depends on what type of windows you are quoting. if they are clad then they need to be the full width of the wall like a door would be. so generally they would either be 4 9/16" or 6 9/16". if you are quoting vinyl then they will be whatever the standard size is for for that manufacturer. most brands are going to be somewhere around 3". some a little over, some a little less. once a vinyl window is installed you can either decide if you want to run the sheetrock back to the frame of the window to finish it out, or if you want to return them with wood. it's most commonly done with sheetrock but either way is fine. regardless of if you have a 2x4 wall or a 2x6 wall the vinyl window frame size will be the same.
